''Williams'' is a 2017 British feature documentary film that tells the story of the Williams Formula 1 team, from its inception to the present day. The film was produced by BBC Films, Minnow Films and Curzon Artificial Eye, and is being distributed in cinemas across the UK and Ireland by Curzon Artificial Eye from 4 August 2017. Morgan Matthews (filmmaker)
Morgan Matthews is an English, BAFTA award-winning documentary director. He is the founder of Minnow Films. Matthews' early work includes the BAFTA, RTS and Grierson nominated '' Taxidermy: Stuff the World'', the RTS nominated Channel 4 series '' My Crazy Parents'' and the feature-length '' Beautiful Young Minds'' which was also BAFTA, RTS and Grierson nominated. In 2006 he founded Minnow Films, starting his work with the company with the Grierson nominated film '' Battleship Antarctica'' for Channel 4. He then went on to make '' The Fallen'', a three-hour film for BBC2 remembering every British serviceman and woman killed in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. The film was named best single documentary of 2008 at the RTS awards and won two BAFTAs including Best Factual Director. Frank Williams (Formula One)
Sir Francis Owen Garbett Williams (16 April 1942 – 28 November 2021) was a British businessman, racing car driver, and the founder of the Williams Formula One team. He was the team principal from its foundation in 1977 until 2020. During that period, the team won nine constructors' championships and seven drivers' championships. Early life On 16 April 1942, Williams was born in South Shields, County Durham. At the time, his father served as an active Royal Air Force officer, while his mother worked as a school teacher. Williams was partly raised by his aunt and uncle in Jarrow, after the breakdown of his parents' marriage. He subsequently spent much of his later childhood at a private boarding school, St Joseph's College, Dumfries, Scotland. Curzon Film (), formerly known as Artificial Eye or Curzon Artificial Eye, is a British film distributor, specialising in independent, foreign-language and art house films for cinema and home entertainment. History Artificial Eye was founded in 1976 by Andi Engel (11 November 1942 – 26 December 2006), a German-born film enthusiast, and his then wife, Pamela Balfry, who had a background working with Richard Roud at the London Film Festival. She became the company's first managing director. Williams Racing Team
Williams Grand Prix Engineering Limited, currently racing in Formula One as Williams Racing, is a British Formula One motor racing team and constructor. It was founded by former team owner Frank Williams (Formula One), Frank Williams and automotive engineer Patrick Head. The team was formed in after Frank Williams' earlier unsuccessful F1 operation: Frank Williams Racing Cars (which later became Frank Williams Racing Cars#Wolf–Williams Racing (1976), Wolf–Williams Racing in 1976). All of Williams F1 chassis are called "FW" then a number, the FW being the initials of team co-founder and original owner, Frank Williams. The team's first race was the 1977 Spanish Grand Prix, where the new team ran a March Engineering, March chassis for Patrick Nève. Williams started manufacturing its own cars the following year, and Switzerland's Clay Regazzoni won Williams' first race at the 1979 British Grand Prix.
