William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center
The William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center is an aquatics venue located in Irvine, California, United States. The City of Irvine operates year-round municipal programs in aquatic facility. The center provides a venue for local, regional and national competitive events and features two 50 meter pools and a 25-yard instruction pool. Aquatics activities include a combination of instructional, educational, recreational and competitive programs offered by the City and a number of local nonprofit aquatic organizations. During the 1984 Summer Olympics, it hosted the swimming portion of the modern pentathlon event. 2010 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships
The eleventh edition of the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, also known as the 2010 Mutual of Omaha Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, a long course (50 m) event, was held in Irvine, California, United States, from August 18–22. Medal table By agreement of the charter nations, medals from the 50 m backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly events would not count towards the official medals standings. These events are not typically swum at the Pan Pacific Championships, but were added to the schedule because the meet served as a qualifying meet for several other large international competitions. United States Swimming National Championships
The United States Swimming National Championships (a.k.a. "Nationals") are held annually, in summer. The event is organized by USA Swimming, and is held in a long course (50m) pool. In the past, and as recently as 2007, there were 2 meets annually: and Spring and Summer Nationals. The Spring meet began as a 25-yard (short course) meet, while the Summer meet was long course. Prior to USA Swimming's creation in the late 1970s, the meet was run by the AAU. Phillips 66 began sponsoring the meet in 1973, which continues through today although the branding of the sponsorship changed to ConocoPhillips in the early 2000s. This is one of the longest sponsorships in U.S. sports.
