William Wallace Brown
William Wallace Brown (April 22, 1836 – November 4, 1926) was a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. Biography William W. Brown was born in Summerhill, New York. He moved with his parents to Elk County, Pennsylvania, in 1838. He attended the common schools and Smethport Academy. He graduated from Alfred University in Allegany County, New York, in 1861. He enlisted in the Twenty-third New York Volunteers in 1861, and transferred to the First Pennsylvania Rifles on December 18, 1861. Brown was appointed recorder of deeds of McKean County, Pennsylvania, in 1864 and its superintendent of schools in 1866. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1866 and practiced. He was elected district attorney of McKean County the same year. In 1869 he moved to Corry, Pennsylvania, where he served three years as city attorney and two years in the city council. Summerhill, New York
Summerhill is a town in Cayuga County, New York, United States. The population was 1,217 at the 2010 census. The town name is that of a location in Ireland. Summerhill is in the southeastern corner of the county and is northeast of Ithaca. History Prior to the American Revolution, this area was part of the territory of the Onondaga people. Afterwards, Summerhill was part of the Central New York Military Tract, land reserved for veterans. The first settler arrived ''circa'' 1797. The town was founded as the town of Plato in 1831 from the town of Locke, but the name was changed to "Summerhill" in 1832 to avoid conflict with the name of another location. Alfred is a village located in the town of Alfred in Allegany County, New York, United States. The population was 4,174 at the 2010 census. The village lies in the north-central part of the town of Alfred on the eastern edge of Allegany County. It is named after Alfred the Great. Alfred is located in the hills of western New York along the Southern Tier. The layout of the valley is such that the lowest part contains the village, and upon the hills to the east and west are Alfred University and Alfred State College, respectively.
