William W. McCammon
William Wallace McCammon (May 28, 1838 – March 27, 1903) was a soldier in the Union Army who received the Medal of Honor for his actions during the American Civil War. Biography He obtained the award for his service as 1st Lieutenant in Company E, 24th Missouri Volunteer Infantry, 24th Missouri Infantry. He was Provost marshal of the company. During the fighting at Corinth, Mississippi, on October 3, 1862 (the Second Battle of Corinth), after great losses to his company, he voluntarily assumed command and continued to lead until the repulse and retreat of the enemy forces the next day. The award was not issued until July 9, 1896. He made a career in the army, rose to the rank of Major, and also served in the Spanish–American War. He was a companion of the Oregon Commandery of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States. He died 19 1903 in Vancouver, Washington, and was buried at the Vancouver Barracks, Fort Vancouver Military Cemetery. See also * List of Med ... Shippensburg, Pennsylvania
Shippensburg is a borough in Cumberland and Franklin counties in the U.S. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Settled in 1730, Shippensburg lies in the Cumberland Valley, southwest of Harrisburg, and is part of the Harrisburg–Carlisle Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 5,492 at the 2010 census. Of this, 4,416 were in Cumberland County, and 1,076 were in Franklin County. Shippensburg was incorporated as a borough on January 21, 1819. In the past, there were furniture factories, engine and pump works, and other industrial works located within the town. Shippensburg is the home of the Beistle Company, the oldest manufacturer of decorations and party goods in the U.S. In May 2012, Volvo Construction Equipment began a $100 million expansion project to bring its American headquarters to Shippensburg. The Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States (MOLLUS), or simply the Loyal Legion is a United States patriotic order, organized April 15, 1865, by three veteran officers of the Army. The original membership was composed of members of the Army, Navy, or Marine Corps of the United States, who had served during the American Civil War as commissioned officers in Federal service, or who had served and thereafter been commissioned, and who thereby "had aided in maintaining the honor, integrity, and supremacy of the national movement" during the Civil War. Vancouver Barracks
Established in 1849, the Vancouver Barracks was the first U.S. Army base located in the Pacific Northwest. Built on a rise 20 feet (6 m) above the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) trading station Fort Vancouver.
