William Steinkamp
William Steinkamp (born June 9, 1953) is an American film editor with more than 20 film credits. He had a longstanding, notable collaboration with director Sydney Pollack, editing nearly all of Pollack's films from ''Tootsie'' (1982) through the director's last film, ''The Interpreter'' (2005). Relative assistance Steinkamp's first credits are as an assistant editor to his father, Fredric Steinkamp, on two of Pollack's films in the late 1970s. From 1980 on, Steinkamp co-edited most of Pollack's films with his father; after his father's retirement in 1995, William Steinkamp became Pollack's principal editor through the end of the latter's career in 2005. Steinkamp has edited several of director Gary Fleder's films, from '' Kiss the Girls'' (1997) through '' The Express'' (2008). Film editing is both a creative and a technical part of the post-production process of filmmaking. The term is derived from the traditional process of working with film which increasingly involves the use of digital technology. ''Out of Africa'' is a 1985 American epic romantic drama film directed and produced by Sydney Pollack, and starring Meryl Streep and Robert Redford. The film is based loosely on the 1937 autobiographical book ''Out of Africa'' written by Isak Dinesen (the pseudonym of Danish author Karen Blixen), with additional material from Dinesen's 1960 book ''Shadows on the Grass'' and other sources. Martin Brest (born August 8, 1951) is an American film director, screenwriter, and producer. Education Brest was born in the Bronx, New York, and graduated from Stuyvesant High School in 1969, from New York University's School of the Arts in 1973 and from the AFI Conservatory with an M.F.A. degree in 1977. Career His major studio debut was ''Going in Style'' (1979), which starred George Burns, Art Carney, and Lee Strasberg. Stephen Keith Kloves (born March 18, 1960) is an American filmmaker. He wrote and directed the 1989 film ''The Fabulous Baker Boys'' and is mainly known for his adaptations of novels, especially for all but one of the ''Harry Potter'' films (the exception being ''Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix'') and for ''Wonder Boys'', for which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. The Academy Award for Best Film Editing is one of the annual awards of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). Nominations for this award are closely correlated with the Academy Award for Best Picture. For 33 consecutive years, 1981 to 2013, every Best Picture winner had also been nominated for the Film Editing Oscar, and about two thirds of the Best Picture winners have also won for Film Editing.
