William Scully (Australian Politician)
William James Scully (1 February 1883 – 19 March 1966) was an Australian politician and farmer. He was a member of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) and held ministerial office in the governments of John Curtin and Ben Chifley, serving as Minister for Commerce (1941–1942), Commerce and Agriculture (1942–1946) and Vice-President of the Executive Council (1946–1949). He served in the House of Representatives from 1937 to 1949, representing the New South Wales seat of Gwydir. Early life Born in Sydney to Thomas James Scully and his wife Sarah Lucy Rutherford, he was educated at a small school near Tamworth. He and his brothers worked as contract labourers, and by the age of 21 Scully was a contractor. In 1912 he became a justice of the peace. He was also involved with the Tamworth Progress Association and the Primary Producers' Union of New South Wales. At Tamworth in 1925 he married Grace Myrtle Kilbride. William Scully (bishop)
William Aloysius Scully (August 6, 1894 – January 5, 1969) was an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as Bishop of Albany from 1954 until his death in 1969. Biography William Scully was born in New York City, and there attended Cathedral College and St. Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers. He also studied at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He was ordained to the priesthood on September 20, 1919. He then served as a curate and afterwards pastor aSacred Heart of Jesus Churchin New York City. He was also pastor of St. Mary's Church in Troy for nine years. He became Secretary of Education for the Archdiocese of New York in 1940. He was named a Domestic Prelate in 1941. On August 21, 1945, Scully was appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Albany and Titular Bishop of ''Pharsalus'' by Pope Pius XII. William Charles Scully
William Charles Scully (29 October 1855 – 25 August 1943) is one of South Africa's best-known authors, although little known outside South Africa. In addition to his work as an author, his paid work was principally as a magistrate in Springfontein, South Africa, as well as in Namaqualand and the Transkei. His last position before retirement was as Chief Magistrate of Port Elizabeth, one of South Africa's larger cities. He organised the building of "New Brighton", a township for aboriginal African people in Port Elizabeth. At the time it was regarded as very progressive—a pleasant place to live. Scully was born in Dublin, Ireland, raised in Cashel, County Tipperary, and then emigrated to southern Africa with his parents in 1867. During 1871 he prospected for diamonds with Cecil Rhodes in Africa. His daughter, Miriam Power (b. 1893), married Dr John A.
