William Schmidt (composer)
William Joseph Schmidt, Jr (March 6, 1926 – April 25, 2009) was an American composer, arranger and publisher of classical music. He was born in Chicago, Illinois. He produced a large body of solo and chamber works for neglected woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments, including several pieces for classical saxophone. According to the Classical Composers Database, "William Schmidt was a student of Ingolf Dahl at the University of Southern California where he earned a Master of Music degree in composition. Throughout his career, he has been the recipient of numerous awards and commissions." His ''Double Concerto for Trumpet, Piano and Chamber Orchestra'' was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in 1981. Schmidt operated his own publishing company, Western International Music Inc., in Greeley, Colorado. Bill Schmidt
Bill Schmidt (born December 29, 1947) is a retired male American javelin thrower from the Pittsburgh suburb of Southview, Pennsylvania. He is the son of Helen and Louis Schmidt, and won the bronze medal at the 1972 Summer Olympics. His dad was born in Germany and came to the United States at the age of 7. His dad was a coal miner for 29 years and marched with John L. Lewis, the UMW organizer and President. Bill is the youngest of seven children, six boys and one girl. He has an identical twin named Bob Schmidt. He attended Canon McMillan Senior High School in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania and competed in football and track and field. He played linebacker and threw the javelin. His personal best in the javelin was 204'4". He played American Legion Baseball and made the Western Pennsylvania All Star Team. The historical Burro Schmidt Tunnel is located in the El Paso Mountains of the northern Mojave Desert, in eastern Kern County, southern California. It is a 0.5-mile (0.80 km) mining tunnel dug with hand tools and dynamite over a 38-year period by William "Burro" H. Schmidt (1871–1954). in the El Paso Mountains of eastern California. Billy Schmidt
Louis William Schmidt (29 December 1887 – 23 October 1975) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Richmond Football Club in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) in 1907 then in the Victorian Football League (VFL) from 1908 to 1911 and again in 1921. He played for the St Kilda Football Club between 1912 and 1914 and again from 1918 until 1920. In 1913, Schmidt kicked a goal after the siren to destroy Carlton's chances of making the finals; it is the first recorded instance of a VFL player kicking a goal after the siren to win the match. Schmidt, who was known for his accurate kicking using the drop kick or the place kick, steered the ball through the goals from 45 yards. Frederick William Smith (born Schmidt) (April, 1861 – May 24, 1928) was an American professional baseball pitcher from 1886 to 1889. He played Major League Baseball for the Detroit Wolverines in 1886, compiling a 5-4 win–loss record and a 4.09 earned run average (ERA). A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, he also pitched for minor league baseball clubs in the southern United States and was reported to have pitched more than one no-hitter and to have once struck out 22 batters in a game and 70 batters in four games. Early years Smith was born in 1861 in New Orleans, Louisiana. His parents, George Schmidt and Catherine (Kohlman) Schmidt were both immigrants to the United States from Germany.
