William Sadler (painter)
William Sadler II (c.1782 – 1839), also known as William Sadler the Younger, was an Irish painter. He was a noted landscape painter who is remembered today for his depiction of the Battle of Waterloo. Life William Sadler II was born around 1782. He was the son of William Sadler, an English portrait painter and engraver who came to Ireland as a boy with his father. Sadler lived at a number of different addresses before settling in Manders' Building, Ranelagh, where he died on 19 December 1839. With his wife, Caroline, Sadler had a number of children including 2 sons became painters, the eldest being William Sadler III, and Rupert Sadler. William Sadler III emigrated to the United States. Career Sadler, who grew up in Dublin, exhibited his paintings between 1809 and 1821 in the city. In 1828 and 1833 he exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy. William Sadler (born 1854, date of death unknown) was a United States Navy sailor and a recipient of the United States military's highest decoration, the Medal of Honor. Biography Born in 1854 in Boston, Massachusetts, Sadler joined the Navy from that state. By June 25, 1881, he was serving as a captain of the top on the . On that day, while ''Saratoga'' was off Coaster's Harbor Island, Rhode Island, Second Class Boy Frank Gallagher fell overboard. Sadler jumped into the water and kept the sailor afloat until they were picked up by one of the ship's small boats. For this action, he was awarded the Medal of Honor three years later, on October 18, 1884. Sadler's official Medal of Honor citation reads: For jumping overboard from the U.S.S. ''Saratoga'', off Coasters Harbor Island, R.I., 25 June 1881, and sustaining until picked up by a boat from the ship, Frank Gallagher, second class boy, who had fallen overboard. William Henry Sadler IV (born September 21, 1981) is a former right-handed relief pitcher. He is a 2000 graduate of Pensacola (Florida) Catholic High School and was named Florida Class 3A Player of the Year his senior year He attended Pensacola Junior College in 2001 and 2002 and transferred to Louisiana State University in 2003. He led LSU with four saves, but took the loss when the Tigers were eliminated from the 2003 College World Series by the University of South Carolina. San Francisco Giants Sadler was selected by Seattle in the 37th round (1106th overall pick) of the amateur draft and in the 30th round (909th overall pick) of the draft, but opted not to sign with the Mariners. Bubby Sadler
William Andrew Sadler (February 28, 1909 – November 10, 1987), alternately spelled "Saddler", and nicknamed "Bubby", was an American Negro league shortstop between 1934 and 1944. Early life and career A native of Delaware City, Delaware, Sadler graduated from Howard High School of Technology, Howard High School. He broke in to the Negro leagues in 1934 with the Bacharach Giants as a power-hitting shortstop, and went on to play for the Brooklyn Eagles the following season. Sadler died in Delaware City in 1987 at age 78, and was inducted into the Delaware Sports Museum and Hall of Fame in 1999.
