William S. Stewart
William Snodgrass Stewart (February 13, 1855 – February 11, 1938) was a lawyer, judge and political figure on Prince Edward Island. He represented 5th Queens in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1912 to 1914 as a Conservative. He was born in Marshfield, Prince Edward Island, the son of Alexander Stewart, and was educated at Prince of Wales College, Dalhousie University and McGill University. He studied law with Frederick Peters, was called to the bar in 1883 and set up practice in Summerside. Stewart later moved to Charlottetown. In 1892, he married Annie Augusta, the daughter of Henry Beer. Stewart ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the provincial assembly in 1893 and 1908 and for a seat in the House of Commons in 1900. Prince Edward Island
Prince Edward Island (PEI; ) is one of the thirteen Provinces and territories of Canada, provinces and territories of Canada. It is the smallest province in terms of land area and population, but the most densely populated. The island has several nicknames: "Garden of the Gulf", "Birthplace of Confederation" and "Cradle of Confederation". Its capital and largest city is Charlottetown. Henry Beer
Henry Beer (7 June 1835 – 2 August 1886) was a merchant and political figure in Prince Edward Island. A Liberal he represented 3rd Queens in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1870 to 1879 and from 1883 to 1886. Beer was also the ninth mayor of Charlottetown from 1885 until his death in 1886. Beer was born in Charlottetown, the son of George Beer and Mary Ann Holland. In 1857, he married Amelia Ings. Beer served as a member of the Executive Council from 1872 to 1873 and was speaker for the provincial assembly from 1877 to 1879. He also served as lieutenant-colonel in the local militia. Beer was defeated when he ran for reelection in 1879 and in 1886. Beer died in Charlottetown at the age of 51. Beer's daughter Annie Augusta married William S. Queens County, Prince Edward Island
Queens County is a county in the province of Prince Edward Island, Canada. It is the largest county in the province by population with 89,770 (2021) and land. Charlottetown is the county seat of Queens County, and is the largest city and the capital of Prince Edward Island. The county is located in the centre of Prince Edward Island, and the geography varies from relatively flat plains to rolling hills in the central interior lands known as the Bonshaw Hills. The coastline features sandstone cliffs and sandy beaches, with numerous sheltered bays on the Gulf of St. Lawrence and Northumberland Strait. The most important geographic feature of Queens County is the Hillsborough River and its extensive estuary, which almost cuts both the county and Prince Edward Island in half. Charlottetown
Charlottetown is the capital and largest city of the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island, and the county seat of Queens County. Named after Queen Charlotte, Charlottetown was an unincorporated town until it was incorporated as a city in 1855. It was the site of the famous Charlottetown Conference in 1864, the first gathering of Canadian and Maritime statesmen to discuss the proposed Maritime Union. 5th Queens
5th Queens was an electoral district in the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island, which elected two members to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1873 to 1993. The district was also known as Charlottetown Common until 1939. Until 1966, the district comprised the entire city of Charlottetown. For that year's provincial election, the district was split, and 5th Queens comprised the eastern half of the city for the remainder of its existence. The western half of Charlottetown became the new district of 6th Queens. Summerside is a Canadian city in Prince County, Prince Edward Island. It is the second largest city in the province and the primary service centre for the western part of the island.
