William S. Howard
William Schley Howard (June 29, 1875 – August 1, 1953) was a U.S. Representative from Georgia, and cousin of U.S. Senator Augustus O. Bacon. Born in Kirkwood, Georgia, of entirely English descent, Howard attended Neel's Academy. At the age of thirteen he began working at the Georgia House of Representatives, first as a page, in 1888 and 1889, then as Calendar clerk in 1890 and 1891. Howard served as private secretary to United States Senator Patrick Walsh of Georgia from August 8, 1894, to February 18, 1895. He then studied law, and was admitted to the bar in 1897, establishing a practice in Wrightsville, Georgia. Howard, enlisted in the Third Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, on July 2, 1898, and served as sergeant during the Spanish–American War. Georgia's 5th Congressional District
Georgia's 5th congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of Georgia (U.S. state), Georgia. The district was represented by Democratic Party (United States), Democrat John Lewis from January 3, 1987 until his death on July 17, 2020. Kwanza Hall was elected to replace Lewis on December 1, 2020 and served until January 3, 2021 when Nikema Williams took his place. Hall was elected in a 2020 Georgia's 5th congressional district special election, special election for the balance of Lewis' 17th term. He chose not to run in the general election for a full two-year term, which was won by Williams. Lieutenant Governor Of Georgia
The lieutenant governor of Georgia is a constitutional officer of the State of Georgia, elected to a four-year term by popular vote. Unlike in some other U.S. states, the lieutenant governor is elected on a separate ticket from the Governor of Georgia. Constitutionally, the lieutenant governor's primary job is to serve as President of Georgia's Senate. In the case of incapacity of the governor, the lieutenant governor assumes the powers (but not the title) of the Governor. Should the governor die or otherwise leave office, the lieutenant governor becomes governor for the remainder of the term of office. The office of Lieutenant Governor was created by a state constitutional revision in 1945. Prior to that time, Georgia did not have such an office. Pierre Howard
Pierre DuVinage Howard, Jr. (born February 3, 1943) is an American politician. He served as the ninth Lieutenant Governor of the U.S. state of Georgia. Background Howard was born into a political family, the son of Pierre DuVinage Howard (1912-1976) and Caroline Ridley Howard (1913-2013). His great-grandfather, Thomas Coke Howard, was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives. His grandfather, William S. Howard served in the Georgia House, as well as the U.S. House of Representatives. Howard attended the University of Georgia, where he was captain of the tennis team and president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa and went on to receive a law degree from the University of Georgia. In 1974, Howard married Nancy Barnes. They have two children, Christopher and Caroline. Decatur is a city in, and the county seat of, DeKalb County, Georgia, which is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area.
