William Ruane (actor)
William Ruane (born 1985) is a Scottish actor. He is best known for his roles in the films '' Sweet Sixteen'' (2002) and ''The Angels' Share'' (2012), and in the soap opera ''River City''. Career Ruane was born in Glasgow and raised in the Castlemilk area of the city, where he attended St Margaret Mary's Secondary School. Whilst still at school and with no previous acting experience, he was selected by director Ken Loach to portray the pivotal character Pinball in the gritty drama '' Sweet Sixteen'' set in the Inverclyde area (which has a local dialect virtually identical to that of Glasgow). Pinball, a volatile boy, was the best friend of protagonist Liam, played by fellow newcomer Martin Compston. The 65th Cannes Film Festival was held from 16 to 27 May 2012. Italian film director Nanni Moretti was the President of the Jury for the main competition and British actor Tim Roth was the President of the Jury for the Un Certain Regard section. French actress Bérénice Bejo hosted the opening and closing ceremonies. The festival opened with the US film ''Moonrise Kingdom'', directed by Wes Anderson and closed with the late Claude Miller's final film '' Thérèse Desqueyroux''. Paul Brannigan
Paul Brannigan (born 14 September 1986) is a Scottish actor best known for his roles as Gareth O'Connor in Scottish soap opera ''River City'' and as Robbie in the film ''The Angels' Share'' (2012). Brannigan also appeared in the 2013 movie '' Under the Skin''. Early life Brannigan was born in Glasgow, Scotland. He was brought up in the rough working-class East End Barrowfield area of Glasgow. Rebecca O'Brien
Rebecca O'Brien (born 1957) is a BAFTA-winning film producer, known especially for her work with Ken Loach. O'Brien was born in London, England. Together with Loach and scriptwriter Paul Laverty, she runs the production company Sixteen Films, formed in 2002. The trio received an "outstanding contribution" award from BAFTA Scotland in November 2016. Paul Laverty (born 1957) is a screenwriter and lawyer best known for his screenplays for films directed by Ken Loach. Birth and early career Paul Laverty was born in Calcutta, West Bengal, to an Irish mother and Scottish father. He was educated at All Souls' School in Wigtown where he grew up. He obtained a philosophy degree at the Gregorian University in Rome while studying for the priesthood at the Pontifical Scots College. Thereafter he obtained a law degree at Strathclyde Law School, in Glasgow. During the mid-1980s, he travelled to Nicaragua and lived there for almost three years. ''The Wind That Shakes the Barley'' is a 2006 war drama film directed by Ken Loach, set during the Irish War of Independence (1919–1921) and the Irish Civil War (1922–1923).
