William Richard O'Byrne
William Richard O'Byrne (1823 – 7 July 1896) was an Irish biographer and politician, author of the '' A Naval Biographical Dictionary'' (1849). Life He was elder son of Robert O'Byrne and his wife Martha Trougher, daughter of Joseph Clark. He was a young man when he conceived of publishing a record of the service of every living Royal Navy officer of the executive branch. The work proved an unrewarding struggle. Sir Francis Thornhill Baring appointed him librarian at the Admiralty; but his successor, Algernon Percy, 4th Duke of Northumberland, did not confirm the position. Recognition for O'Byrne's work came from the Royal United Service Institution, and in 1857 he was specially elected a member of the Athenæum Club. On the death of his cousin Georgiana O'Byrne, he succeeded to the Cabinteely estate, County Wicklow. In 1872, he was High Sheriff of Wicklow, and was M.P. for the county from 1874 to 1880. County Wicklow was a parliamentary constituency in Ireland, represented in the Parliament of the United Kingdom. William Joseph Corbet
William Joseph Corbet (12 December 1824 – 1 December 1909) was an Irish nationalist politician and Member of Parliament (MP) for constituencies in County Wicklow for most of the period from 1880 to 1900. He was also a mental health administrator, author and noted dog breeder. Early life Third son of Robert Corbet of Ballykaneen, Queen's County (now County Offaly), by Alice, youngest daughter of John Mulhall of Clonaslee, County Offaly, he was educated at Broadwood Academy, Lancashire. He worked for 30 years in the Irish Lunacy Office, as a Clerk in 1847–53 and Chief Clerk, 1853–77. He was elected a member of the Royal Irish Academy (MRIA) in 1874. Political career In the 1880 general election he was elected as one of two Home Rule League members for Wicklow, taking his seat in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. James Carlile McCoan
James Carlile McCoan (14 July 1829 – 13 January 1904) was an Irish Home Rule League, Liberal and independent politician, author and journalist. Early education and career McCoan was educated at The Royal School in Dungannon in the south-east of County Tyrone in Ulster and at Homerton College, then located in Hackney and at the time affiliated with the University of London, before graduating from London University in 1848. He then entered Middle Temple in at age 22 in 1851, before being called to the bar in 1856, where he joined the south-eastern circuit. He did not however seek practice in England, instead pursuing a journalism career and being appointed war correspondent at Charles Dickens' '' The Daily News'' during the Crimean War. Towards the end of the war, McCoan travelled in Georgia and Circassia, before settling in Constantinople where he worked in the supreme consular court until 1864.
