William R. Rockhill
William R. Rockhill (February 10, 1793 – January 15, 1865) was an American politician who served one term as a U.S. Representative from Indiana from 1847 to 1849. Biography Born in Burlington, New Jersey, Rockhill attended the public schools. He moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1823. He engaged in agricultural pursuits. Political career He served as commissioner of Allen County, Indiana, in 1825 Justice of the Peace. He served as member of the first city council of Fort Wayne and also city assessor. He served as member of the State house of representatives 1834-1837. He served in the State senate 1844-1847. Rockhill was elected as a Democrat to the Thirtieth Congress (March 4, 1847 – March 3, 1849). He resumed agricultural pursuits. Family William R. Isaac DeGroff Nelson
Isaac De Groff Nelson (July 2, 1810 – March 24, 1891) was an early pioneer in Indiana, where he owned a newspaper, held several political offices, and became the father of newspaperman William Rockhill Nelson. I. D. G. Nelson was born in New York state on July 2, 1810. In 1836, he moved to Fort Wayne, arriving via steamer along the newly opened Wabash and Erie Canal. Nelson bought the Fort Wayne Sentinel from George W. Wood in 1840 and turned it from a Whig paper to an organ of the Democratic Party. In 1851 he was elected as a representative from Allen County, Indiana to the Indiana General Assembly, where he helped pass the Nelson railroad bill. In 1852, he also helped organize the Wabash Railroad Company. William Rockhill Nelson
William Rockhill Nelson (March 7, 1841 – April 13, 1915) was an American real estate developer and co-founder of ''The Kansas City Star'' in Kansas City, Missouri, Kansas City, Missouri. He donated his estate (and home) for the establishment of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. He is buried at Mt. Washington Cemetery with his wife, daughter and son-in-law. Early life Nelson was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana. His father was publisher Isaac De Groff Nelson (1810–1891) and his mother was Elizabeth Rockhill (1816–1889), the daughter of William R. Rockhill, an important farmer and politician in Fort Wayne, Indiana. For a short time, Isaac Nelson owned ''The Sentinel'' newspaper (which became the ''Fort Wayne News Sentinel''). But I.D.G. Indiana's 10th Congressional District
Indiana's 10th congressional district was a congressional district for the United States House of Representatives in Indiana. It encompassed roughly the "Old City Limits" of Indianapolis from 1983-2003. The district was re-drawn after the 1980 census and eliminated when Indiana's representation in the House of Representatives fell from 10 to nine after the 2000 Census. Congresswoman Julia Carson, who formerly represented the 10th, was elected in 2002 to represent Indiana's 7th congressional district. This district was redrawn to include the old 10th plus some new territory outside the old boundaries. The old 7th district was absorbed as part of Indiana's 4th congressional district and Indiana's 8th congressional district in 2003.
