Liam Pilkington
Liam Pilkington (2 June 1894 – 26 March 1977), also known as William Pilkington and Billy Pilkington, was a member of the IRA during the Irish War of Independence. Pilkington was General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 3rd Western Division, IRA, from 1921 to 1923. After the conclusion of the Irish War of Independence Pilkington joined the Anti-Treaty IRA during the Irish Civil War. He attempted to become a politician for a short while, but was ultimately unsuccessful. Disillusioned due to the Irish Civil War, Pilkington became a Catholic priest for the remainder of his life. He served as a priest in South Africa and Wales before retiring to Liverpool, England, where he died. Early life Pilkington was born in Sligo on 2 June 1894. He received his education at the local Marist Brothers' convent school and the Day Trades Preparatory School. William Pilkington (architect)
William Pilkington (1758–1848) was an English architect. Life Born at Hatfield, near Doncaster, Yorkshire, on 7 September 1758, he was elder son of William Pilkington of Hatfield, by his second wife, Elizabeth, daughter of William Barker of Tadcaster. He was a pupil with Sir Robert Taylor, whose assistant he remained until Taylor's death in 1788. Pilkington had a practice as surveyor and architect in London, being employed by the Board of Customs (1782–1810), the parishes of St. Margaret and St. John in Westminster (1784), the Sun Fire Assurance office (1792), and Charterhouse School (1792). He retired about 1842 to his property at Hatfield, where he lived for the remainder of his life. He died in 1848. Works Pilkington was employed as surveyor and architect by Jacob Pleydell-Bouverie, 2nd Earl of Radnor at Salisbury, where he built the Guildhall (1788–97) from Taylor's designs, and at Folkestone, where he built the gaol. William Pilkington (cricketer)
William Pilkington (6 December 1806 – 2 June 1832) was an English cricketer with amateur status. He was associated with Oxford University and made his first-class debut in 1827. The son of Charles Pilkington of Chichester, Pilkington matriculated at Trinity College, Oxford, in 1824. Harry Pilkington
William Henry Pilkington, Baron Pilkington (29 April 1905 – 23 December 1983) was an English glass manufacturer and president of the Federation of British Industries, who is remembered politically as chairman of the Pilkington Committee that produced the controversial Pilkington Report of 1962. He was also Chancellor of Loughborough University from 1966 to 1980. Education Pilkington was born in St Helens, Lancashire, the eldest son of Richard Austin Pilkington and his wife, Hope. He was educated at Rugby School, a boarding independent school in the market town of Rugby in Warwickshire, followed by Magdalene College at the University of Cambridge. Pilkington Brothers Ltd Pilkington joined the board of the family business, Pilkington Brothers Ltd, in 1934 and served as chairman from 1949 to 1973. Pilkington Baronets
The Pilkington, later Milborne-Swinnerton-Pilkington Baronetcy, of Stanley in the County of York, is a title in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia. It was created on 29 June 1635 for Arthur Pilkington, along with a grant of in Nova Scotia. The fifth Baronet was High Sheriff of Yorkshire for 1740–41 and sat as member of parliament for Horsham. The eighth Baronet married Mary, daughter and co-heir of Thomas Swinnerton, of Butterton Hall, Staffordshire, by his wife Mary, daughter and heir of Charles Milborne, of Wonastow Court, Monmouthshire. His second son William changed his name to Milborne-Swinnerton by Act of Parliament, but later resumed the use of the surname of Pilkington in addition to Milborne-Swinnerton by another Act of Parliament (which partially revoked the first act).
