William Houghton Sprague Pearce
William Houghton Sprague Pearce also known as W.H.S. Pearce (August 5, 1864 – April 15, 1935), an American artist, was born in Boston to Mary Anna Sprague Pearce and Shadrach Houghton Pearce. His father ran a successful Chinese importing business. He was descended from many of Massachusetts's founding and historical figures. His grandfather was Charles Sprague, an early American poet known as the " Banker Poet of Boston". His great-grandfather, Samuel Sprague, was a Patriot of the Revolutionary period and a participant in the Boston Tea Party who served under George Washington. He also is descended from Richard Warren, a Mayflower passenger and signer of the Mayflower Compact and The Rev. Peter Hobart of Hingham. William was a graduate of the English High School in Boston, Massachusetts in 1882. Bill Pearce
Bill Pearce (May 20, 1926 February 23, 2010) was an American singer, solo trombonist, nationally syndicated broadcaster and inductee into the National Religious Broadcasters Hall of Fame. He died at age 83 on February 23, 2010, from complications of Parkinson's disease. Early life William Jones Pearce was born in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, on May 20, 1926. His father was an itinerant Methodist minister with his own daily radio program, ''Christian Voices'', which could be heard on WFIL, WIP and WCAM. Sir William Pearce, 1st Baronet (8 January 1833 – 18 December 1888) was a British shipbuilder, under whose management the Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company in Govan on the River Clyde became the leading shipbuilding company in the world. He was later a Conservative Party (UK), Conservative Party politician. Career Pearce was born at Brompton near Chatham, Kent, Chatham in Kent, the son of Joseph George Pearce. He trained as a shipwright and naval architect at the Chatham Dockyard. After supervising the construction of HMS Achilles (1863), HMS ''Achilles'', the first ironclad warship built in Chatham, he moved in 1863 to Scotland to take up the post of surveyor to the Lloyd's Register on the Clyde. Sir William George Pearce, 2nd Baronet (23 July 1861 – 2 November 1907) was a British industrialist and Conservative Party politician. Life Pearce was son of the Clydeside shipbuilder Sir William Pearce and his wife Dinah Elizabeth, ''née'' Sowter. Born in Chatham, Kent, he was educated at Rugby School and went at Trinity College, Cambridge, and was called to the bar at the Inner Temple in 1885. After his father died in 1888, Pearce succeeded him to the baronetcy and as chairman of the Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company, but lacked his father's flair and drive. The business faltered, until by 1893 there was only one ship under a construction – a sailing vessel, in a yard noted for its expertise in engine technology. William Pearce (1848–1930), was a surveyor, statistician, planner, and administrator in western Canada. He served in the federal government from 1874 to 1904 as federal surveyor and administrator, as federal advisor for western development and as Western consultant for the Canadian Pacific Railway Company. As Inspector of Dominion Lands Agencies, he oversaw the "development and allocation of all land, forests, mineral and water resources" from "Winnipeg to the eastern foothills of the Rockies"—representing 400,000 square miles of land, earning his nickname—"Czar of the West". He was known for his work on the Bow River watershed irrigation systems that transformed lands in southern Alberta into fertile land. Pearce moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1884 and after retiring from public service, worked for the CPR as statistician. A year before he died he donated his estate to the City of Calgary. The Pearce Baronetcy, of Cardell in the County of Renfrew, was a title in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom.
