William Patrick Jr.
William Patrick (10 May 1880 – 5 August 1968) was an Australian politician who was a Country Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1930 to 1943, representing the seat of Greenough. He was deputy leader of the Country Party from 1936 to 1943. Early life Patrick was born in Stevenston, Ayrshire, Scotland, to Jane (née Walker) and William Patrick. His father was also a member of parliament. The family moved to Australia in 1881, settling in Kapunda, South Australia. Patrick attended Roseworthy Agricultural College, and later joined his father in Western Australia, buying a farm in the Northampton district. It is affiliated with the National Party of Australia but maintains a separate structure and identity. Since the 2021 state election, the Nationals WA is the senior party in an opposition alliance with the WA Liberal Party in the WA Parliament. Prior to the election, the National Party was sitting in the crossbench and the Liberal Party was the sole opposition party. Charles Herbert Simpson (28 August 1887 – 12 June 1963) was an Australian politician who was a member of the Legislative Council of Western Australia from 1946 until his death. He served as a minister in the government of Ross McLarty. Simpson was born near Yanac, Victoria, to Mary Ann (née Stone) and John Michael Simpson. He moved to Western Australia at a young age, and in 1905 went to the Murchison goldfields, living at Youanmi for a period. Simpson lived in Rhodesia from 1914 to 1916, and then enlisted in the British Army, serving in England with the Royal Engineers. The Western Australian Legislative Council is the upper house of the Parliament of Western Australia, a state of Australia. It is regarded as a house of review for legislation passed by the Legislative Assembly, the lower house. The two Houses of Parliament sit in Parliament House in the state capital, Perth. 1943 Western Australian State Election
Elections were held in the state of Western Australia on 20 November 1943 to elect all 50 members to the Legislative Assembly. The Labor Party, led by Premier John Willcock, won a fourth term in office against the Country and Nationalist parties, led by Opposition Leader Arthur Watts and Robert Ross McDonald respectively. The election took place in the midst of World War II, and as such, turnout was considerably down on the previous election. The election was delayed from its intended date of February 1942 by the ''Legislative Assembly Duration and General Election Postponement Acts'' (No 51 of 1941, assented 16 January 1942, and No 18 of 1942, assented 9 December 1942) due to the war. Elections were held in the state of Western Australia on 18 March 1939 to elect all 50 members to the Legislative Assembly. The Labor Party, led by Premier John Willcock, won a third term in office against the Country and Nationalist parties, led by Opposition Leader Charles Latham and Robert Ross McDonald respectively. Results The election was notable for the lack of change to the status quo. Only one member—former Speaker Michael Troy, who had been in the Assembly continuously since 1904—opted to retire, being replaced in his seat of Mount Magnet by fellow Labor member Lucien Triat.
