William Murrell (physician)
William Murrell (1853–1912) was an English physician, clinical pharmacologist, and toxicologist. Murrell is best known for being one of the first to recognize the clinical benefits of glyceryl trinitrate (also known as nitroglycerin) for the management of patients with angina pectoris. Early life And Education Murrell was born in London in 1853, the son of a lawyer. He was educated at Murray School in Wimbledon and University College in London. He trained at the University College and Brompton hospitals. At the University College hospital he taught physiology. William Murrell (politician, Died 1892)
Rev. William Murrell, Sr. (1814–February 7, 1892) was an American minister and politician. He served as a pastor in the Methodist Episcopal Church, and was a state legislator in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana. Biography William Murrell was born enslaved in Georgetown, South Carolina, and was the son of Rebecca (last name unknown) and his mother's owner Peter Murrell. His ownership was transferred and he was sold on several occasions which moved him to various Southern states, including Alabama. His son was William Murrell Jr., was born enslaved in Georgia and represented Madison Parish in the Louisiana House of Representatives from for two terms during Reconstruction era. Prior to 1865, Murrell Sr.’s ministerial work was performed for the African Methodist Episcopal Church and the Methodist Episcopal Church, South denominations. Willie Murrell
Willie Vernon Murrell (September 13, 1941 – December 6, 2018) was an American professional basketball player. Murrell was born in Taft, Oklahoma. A 6'6" forward, he played at Kansas State University from 1962 to 1964. He averaged 20.6 points and 10.7 rebounds per game during his time at Kansas State and was a 1964 All-American AP Honorable Mention. In 1964, he led Kansas State to the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament. The team was eliminated by UCLA, despite a 29-point, 13-rebound effort from Murrell. In 2009, Murrell's No. 44 jersey was retired by Kansas State. After college, Murrell played three seasons in the American Basketball Association as a member of the Denver Rockets, Miami Floridians, and Kentucky Colonels. He averaged 13.1 points and 7.3 rebounds in 228 ABA games.
