William Murray, 2nd Earl Of Tullibardine
William Murray, 2nd Earl of Tullibardine (c. 1574–1626) was a Scottish landowner and courtier. He was the son of John Murray, 1st Earl of Tullibardine and Catherine Drummond, daughter of David, 2nd Lord Drummond. He travelled abroad in 1594 to learn languages, first going to London with James Drummond of Innerpeffray, and William Drummond, with a passport from the English ambassador Robert Bowes. According to the English diplomat George Nicholson, James VI he and James Drummond of Inchaffray were made servants in the king's chamber in August 1601 at Perth. At the Union of Crowns he came to London in 1603. Billy Murray (baseball)
William Jeremiah Murray (April 13, 1864 — March 25, 1937) was one of the most successful managers in American minor league baseball during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He also spent three seasons (1907–09) in Major League Baseball as manager of the Philadelphia Phillies of the National League. Biography A native of Peabody, Massachusetts, Murray began his minor league managing career at age 25 with the Quincy, Illinois, ''Ravens'' of the Central Interstate League in 1889. After winning back-to-back pennants at Quincy and Joliet of the Illinois–Iowa League in 1891–92, Murray spent nine seasons (1894–1902) as skipper of the Providence Grays of the top-level Eastern League (a forerunner of today's International League). He then spent four winning seasons as manager of the Jersey City Skeeters of the Eastern circuit, taking one league pennant. William Murray (Ontario Politician)
William Murray (June 17, 1839 – July 15, 1898) was a businessman and political figure in Ontario, Canada. He represented Renfrew North in the House of Commons of Canada as a Liberal member from 1874 to 1875. He was born in Goulbourn Township in 1839, the son of James Murray, an Irish immigrant, and Elizabeth Burrows, and was educated in Goulbourn Township. He entered business with his older brother Thomas in Pembroke. In 1864, he married Margaret Mary Foran. He was declared elected in 1874 after Peter White's election was appealed. In 1876, Murray was unseated and White won the subsequent by-election. William Archibald Murray (1832 – 26 June 1900) was a 19th-century Member of Parliament in Otago, New Zealand. During his time in parliament, he moved to the Waikato. Biography Brothers William, John (died 1896), and James Murray (died 1899) arrived in Dunedin, New Zealand from Scotland aboard the ''Nourmahal'' on 16 April 1858. Their parents John and Jane, two more brothers, Thomas and George, and George's wife and three children, arrived in Dunedin aboard the ''Agra'' in October later that year. The family had, for several generations, farmed 880acres at Marygold in Bunkle and Preston, Berwickshire, Scotland, but came to New Zealand presumably for the opportunity it then provided to acquire and develop land. William Murray (October 1, 1803 – August 25, 1875) was an American banker and politician who served two terms as a United States representative from New York from 1851 to 1855. Biography Murray was born near Middletown, New York on October 1, 1803, a son of William Murray Sr. and Mary Ann (Beakes) Murray. His siblings included Ambrose S. Murray. Early career William Murray attended the common schools, and was employed as a clerk in mercantile establishments, first in Middletown, and later in New York City. William Murray (February 13, 1857 – March 27, 1913) was a lawyer and political figure in New Brunswick, Canada. He represented Restigouche County in the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick from 1885 to 1892 as a Liberal-Conservative. He was born in Cambellton, Colony of New Brunswick. His father had gone there from Prince Edward Island Prince Edward Island (PEI; ) is one of the thirteen provinces and territories of Canada. It is the smallest province in terms of land area and population, but the most densely populated. The island has several nicknames: "Garden of the Gulf", .... In 1883, he married Gertrude M. Major William Murray (1865 – 5 March 1923) was a Liberal Unionist and later Unionist Party politician in Scotland. He was elected at 1918 general election as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Dumfriesshire, as a Coalition Unionist, but did not stand again at the 1922 election. Murray had earlier contested the seat as a Liberal Unionist in both the January 1910 and December 1910 general elections, but lost on both occasions by margins (by margins of 6.6% and 6.4% respectively). William Murray (17 April 1882 – 12 November 1977) was an Australian athlete who competed in the 1912 Summer Olympics in Stockholm, Sweden. Murray joined the Melbourne Harriers when he was a young man and started off in long distance running events, he is credited as winning the first ever marathon run in Melbourne in 1910. He took up racewalking when asked to enter a race due to a poor field in which he went on to win, over the next two weeks he won two more events and even beat the current Australian record holder. In 1911 he broke the Australasian record for the one mile which had stood for 15 years and also became Victorian champion at the three mile event, he won both events the next year also both in faster times, the NSWAAA (New South Wales Amateur Athletic Association) acknowledged his world record in the 3500 metre event of 14:49.4.
