Willie Macfarlane
William Macfarlane (29 June 1889 – 15 August 1961) was a Scottish professional golfer. Biography Macfarlane was born in Aberdeen, Scotland. Like many British golfers of his era, he took a position as a club professional in the United States. In 1925 he won the U.S. Open at Worcester Country Club in Worcester, Massachusetts. He tied Bobby Jones over 72 holes, with both men shooting 291. Macfarlane had set a new U.S. Open single round low-score of 67 in the second round. The two men played an 18-hole playoff and both of them shot 75. Macfarlane won a second 18-hole playoff by 72 shots to 73. Macfarlane played in the U.S. Open 16 times, but only had one other top-10 finish. He won 21 times on the PGA Tour. Death Macfarlane died in Miami, Florida. New Year Sprint
The New Year Sprint (formerly the Powderhall Sprint) is the name of a handicap sprint race for professional athletes that takes place each year in Scotland. The sprint is one of the original events of this type, tracing its history back to 1870. Willie MacFarlane (footballer, Born 1930)
Willie MacFarlane (17 March 1930 – 11 March 2010) was a Scottish football player and manager who played for and managed Hibernian. Early life and playing career MacFarlane played as a full–back for Hibernian in the 1950s, when the club featured the forward line known as The Famous Five. He was born in Leith and brought up in the same area ( Hutchison) as goalkeeper Tommy Younger, with whom he played for Hutchison Vale and the Army. Both players were then signed for Hibs by manager Hugh Shaw. He was taken by Hibs on a tour of Brazil in 1953 to play in three games in the Maracana stadium against Vasco da Gama, Botafogo and Fluminense. MacFarlane also played for Hibs in the first season of the European Cup, playing in five of the six matches possible. Hibs eventually lost to Stade Reims in the semi-final, where MacFarlane was pitted against Raymond Kopa.
