William M. Ketchum
William Matthew Ketchum (September 2, 1921 – June 24, 1978) was an American businessman and Republican Party politician who was a member of the California State Assembly from 1967 to 1973 and a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1973 until his death. Early life Ketchum was born on September 2, 1921, in Los Angeles, California. He was educated at schools in Los Angeles County and military school in North Hollywood, California, before attending the Colorado School of Mines from 1939 to 1940, and the University of Southern California from 1940 to 1942. Kethcum entered the United States Army in 1942 and served in the Pacific before discharge in 1946. He was recalled into service during the Korean War and served from 1950 to 1953. Career He owned and operated a hardware and auto-supply store from 1946 to 1950, and worked as a salesman from 1953 to 1957. Bill Thomas
William Marshall Thomas (born December 6, 1941) is an American politician. He was a California Republican Party, Republican member of the United States House of Representatives from 1979 to 2007, finishing his tenure representing California's 22nd congressional district and as the Chairman of the U.S. House Committee on Ways and Means, House Ways and Means Committee. Early life and family Thomas was born in Wallace, Idaho, moving with his parents to the Southern California area. He graduated from Garden Grove High School, attended Santa Ana College, earning an associate's degree before transferring to San Francisco State University, where he earned his bachelor's degree and master's degree in political science in 1963 and 1965, respectively. The California State Assembly is the lower house of the California State Legislature, the upper house being the California State Senate. Robert Bruce Mathias (November 17, 1930 – September 2, 2006) was an American decathlete, two-time Olympic gold medalist in the event, a United States Marine Corps officer, actor and United States Congressman representing the state of California for four terms from 1967 to 1975. Early life and athletic career Mathias was born in Tulare, California. He attended Tulare Union High School, where he was a classmate and long time friend of Sim Iness, the 1952 Olympic discus gold medalist. While at Tulare Union in early 1948, Mathias took up the decathlon at the suggestion of his track coach, Virgil Jackson. During the summer following his high school graduation, he qualified for the United States Olympic team for the 1948 Summer Olympics held in London. In the Olympics, Mathias's naïveté about the decathlon was exposed. He was unaware of the rules in the shot put and nearly fouled out of the event.
