William M. Faulkner
William M. Faulkner served as a United States Marine Corps lieutenant general in commands including Deputy Commandant for Installations and Logistics. He retired in 2015. Education Faulkner graduated from Havelock High School in 1978. He then went on to East Carolina University, where he completed a bachelor of science degree in business in 1982. He holds a master's degree in business from Chaminade University and a master of science degree in National Resource Strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. Military service Following his commissioning in 1982, he has served in a variety of command and staff billets, including in Operation Enduring Freedom as a member of Task Force 58. The 1998 bombing of Iraq (code-named Operation Desert Fox) was a major four-day bombing campaign on Iraqi targets from 16 to 19 December 1998, by the United States and the United Kingdom. On 16 December 1998, President of the United States Bill Clinton announced that he had ordered strikes against Iraq. The contemporaneous justification for the strikes was Iraq's failure to comply with United Nations Security Council resolutions and its interference with United Nations Special Commission inspectors who were looking for weapons of mass destruction, The inspectors were sent back in 1997 and were repeatedly refused access to certain sites thus compelling the U.S to launch strikes. Operation Southern Watch was an air-centric military operation conducted by the United States Department of Defense from Summer 1992 to Spring 2003. Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) was the official name used synonymously by the U.S. government for both the War in Afghanistan (2001–2014) and the larger-scale Global War on Terrorism.
