William Locker
William Locker (16 February 1866 – 15 August 1952) was an English association football, footballer and cricketer. He played first-class cricket for Derbyshire County Cricket Club, Derbyshire between 1894 and 1903 and football for Stoke F.C., Stoke, Derby County F.C., Derby County and Notts County F.C., Notts County. He was one of nineteen sportsmen to achieve the Derbyshire Double of playing cricket for Derbyshire and football for Derby County. Locker was born in Long Eaton, Derbyshire, the son of William Locker and his wife Mary. His father was a lace maker and at the age of 15 Locker was a lace threader. Football career Locker played association football for Stoke F.C., Stoke, Derby County F.C., Derby County and Notts County F.C., Notts County. His only appearance for Stoke came in a 2–1 defeat at home to Preston North End F.C., Preston North End in November 1889. Long Eaton
Long Eaton is a town in the Erewash district of Derbyshire, England, just north of the River Trent, about south-west of Nottingham and some 8½ miles (13.7 km) south-east of Derby. The town population was 37,760 at the 2011 census. It has been part of Erewash borough since 1 April 1974, when Long Eaton Urban District was disbanded. Geography Long Eaton lies in Derbyshire, across the border of Nottinghamshire and close to Leicestershire. It is covered by the Nottingham post town and has a Nottingham telephone area code (0115). Derbyshire Country Cricket Club in 1894 was the cricket season when the English club Derbyshire had been playing for twenty three years. Derbyshire's matches were re-accorded first class status in this season but they did not start to take part in the County Championship until the following season. 1894 season The captains of the leading counties determined that in 1894 Derbyshire with Essex, Leicestershire and Warwickshire , should be given first-class status. The match results did not count in the County Championship until 1895, when Hampshire was also admitted. Derbyshire played eleven first-class games including one against MCC. They played three other matches which were against Hampshire and the touring South Africans. Derbyshire won six of their first class matches and lost four with one drawn. The Football Association Challenge Cup, more commonly known as the FA Cup, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic English football. First played during the 1871–72 season, it is the oldest national football competition in the world. It is organised by and named after The Football Association (The FA). Since 2015, it has been known as The Emirates FA Cup after its headline sponsor. A concurrent women's tournament is also held, the Women's FA Cup. The competition is open to all eligible clubs down to Level 9 of the English football league system with Level 10 clubs acting as stand-ins in the event of non-entries from above. The 1891–92 season was the 21st season of competitive football in England. Events Three new clubs joined the Football Alliance, following the expansion of the Football League to 14 teams, and the defection of Sunderland Albion to the Northern League. These new teams were Ardwick (later Manchester City), Burton Swifts and Lincoln City. Everton left Anfield on 15 March 1892 after a dispute with the stadium's landlord, John Houlding. Everton moved into a new stadium at nearby Goodison Park, while Houlding formed a new football club—Liverpool F.C.—on 30 March 1892, to play at Anfield. Preston North End set a new league record by winning 13 consecutive matches up to March 1892. A month later Sunderland equalled the record when they won their 13th successive game. The record of 13 consecutive wins in a single season stood for 125 years until broken by Manchester City in 2017. 1890–91 In English Football
The 1890–91 season was the 20th season of competitive football in England. Events Everton started the 1890–91 season in superb form with five straight victories, with Fred Geary scoring in each of the first six matches. By mid-January, Everton had completed all but one of their fixtures and were on 29 points, while Preston North End were eleven points adrift with seven games still to play. Everton then had to sit out the next two months as Preston completed their fixture list until they were only two points adrift with one match each left to play. Both teams played their final games of the season on 14 March, with Everton losing 3–2 at Burnley (Geary scored both Everton goals) and Preston going down 3–0 at Sunderland. Everton were thus able to win the Football League Championship for the first time, by a margin of two points with fourteen victories from their 22 league games. The English Football League (EFL) is a league of professional football clubs from England and Wales. Founded in 1888 as the Football League, the league is the oldest such competition in the world. It was the top-level football league in England from its foundation until 1992, when the top 22 clubs split from it to form the Premier League. The EFL is divided into the Championship, League One and League Two, with 24 clubs in each division, 72 in total, with promotion and relegation between them; the top Championship clubs change places with the lowest-placed clubs in the Premier League, and the bottom clubs of League Two with the top clubs of the National League. Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 1903 was the cricket season when the English club Derbyshire had been playing for thirty two years. It was their ninth season in the County Championship and they won five matches to come twelfth 1903 season Derbyshire played sixteen games in the County Championship in addition to two matches against W.G. Grace's London County Cricket Club and one against MCC. They won four matches in the Championship and one against London County. The captain for the year was Albert Lawton in his second season as captain. Levi Wright was top scorer and Billy Bestwick took most wickets. A significant addition to the Derbyshire side was Arthur Morton who played for the club until 1926.
