William Lathrop (politician)
William Lathrop (April 17, 1825 – November 19, 1907) was a U.S. Representative from Illinois. Born near Le Roy, New York, Lathrop attended the public schools and an academy at Brockport, New York. He studied law in Attica, New York. He moved to Knoxville, Illinois, and was admitted to the bar in 1850. He settled in Rockford, Illinois, in 1851 and practiced his profession. City clerk and city attorney of Rockford in 1852. He served as member of the State house of representatives in 1856 and 1857. Lathrop was elected as a Republican to the Forty-fifth Congress (March 4, 1877 – March 3, 1879). The 4th congressional district of Illinois includes part of Cook County, and has been represented by Democrat Jesús "Chuy" García since January 2019. Greenwood Cemetery (Rockford, Illinois)
Greenwood Cemetery is a cemetery in Rockford, Illinois. Founded in 1852, it is the largest and oldest in the city. The Greenwood Cemetery Chapel and Crematory was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. History In 1838, the first burial occurred in Rockford, Illinois, shortly after the settlement was founded. A man drowned in the Rock River and his body was buried on a plot which is now near the intersection of Cedar and Winnebago Streets. The daughter of Germanicus Kent was buried nearby, making it the first city burial ground. In the early 1840s, a new area was briefly used for burials on the south side of State Street. In 1844, the property was exchanged for two lots on the north bank of Kent's Creek. It was chartered the next year as the Rockford Cemetery Association. The 45th United States Congress was a meeting of the legislative branch of the United States federal government, consisting of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives. It met in Washington, D.C. from March 4, 1877, to March 4, 1879, during the first two years of Rutherford Hayes's presidency.
