William Kenneally
William Kenneally (1899 – 13 September 1964)Sudden death of Waterford alderman, ''Irish Independent'', 14 September 1964. His age was given as 65. was an Irish politician. A native of Curradara, Villierstown, County Waterford, he was elected to Dáil Éireann as a Fianna Fáil Teachta Dála (TD) at the Waterford by-election held on 26 June 1952 which caused by the death of Bridget Redmond of Fine Gael. He was re-elected for the Waterford constituency at the 1954 and 1957 general elections. He did not contest the 1961 general election. His son Billy Kenneally also served as a TD for Waterford from 1965 to 1982 and his grandson Brendan Kenneally Brendan Kenneally (born 1 April 1955) is a former Irish Fianna Fáil politician. A Teachta Dála ( , ; plural ), abbreviated as TD (plural ''TDanna'' in Irish, TDs in English), is a member of Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Oireachtas (the Irish Parliament). Fine Gael (, ; English: "Family (or Tribe) of the Irish") is a liberal-conservative and Christian-democratic political party in Ireland. Fine Gael is currently the third-largest party in the Republic of Ireland in terms of members of Dáil Éireann and largest in terms of Irish members of the European Parliament. Costello on 4 February. It was the longest election campaign in the history of the state, spanning 30 days. The 1954 Irish general election was held on Tuesday, 18 May to elect the 15th Dáil. The newly-elected members assembled at Leinster House on 2 June when the new Taoiseach and government were appointed. The general election took place in 40 parliamentary constituencies throughout Ireland for 147 seats in the lower house of parliament, Dáil Éireann. Campaign The general election of 1954 was caused by the loss of an overall majority for the ruling Fianna Fáil party in the Dáil. Rather than be voted down on a vote in the Dáil, Éamon de Valera decided to call a general election and let the people decide. Bridget Redmond
Bridget Mary Redmond (; 30 October 1904 – 3 May 1952) was an Irish Cumann na nGaedheal and Fine Gael politician, as well as a member of Eoin O'Duffy's radical Blueshirts paramilitary. Thrust into politics by the sudden death of her husband in 1932, Redmond would go on to have a twenty-year career in Irish politics during a period in which it was extremely rare for women to hold public office. Early life Bridget Mary Mallick was born to John Mallick, landowner, hotelier, and racehorse owner, and Bridget Mallick (née Sex), both of the Curragh in County Kildare. Growing up, she studied at an Ursuline school in Waterford City between 1916 and 1922, where she earned the nickname "Tiny" due to her small statue.
