William Joseph (governor)
William Joseph was the 11th Proprietary Governor of Maryland from 1688 to 1689. He was appointed by the colony's proprietor Charles Calvert, 3rd Baron Baltimore. Joseph attempted to maintain control of the colony in the proprietor's name, but religious turmoil related to the Glorious Revolution in England led to Joseph's being removed from office by Protestant colonists and the Calvert family losing control of the colony. Term as Governor The Catholic Calvert family established Maryland as a place where English Catholics, who were a religious minority, could find religious tolerance. However, many of the colonists who arrived in Maryland were Protestant. In 1681, Protestant colonists, especially members of the Anglican Church, began a series of local rebellions against proprietary control by Calvert. William Joseph (born September 3, 1979) is a former American football defensive tackle of Haitian descent, who last played for the Oakland Raiders of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the New York Giants in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft. He played college football at the University of Miami. Early years Joseph attended Edison High School and was Florida Class 6A Second-team All-State and First-team All-Dade County as a defensive end, recorded 109 tackles, 17 sacks, 12 tackles for loss, six fumbles caused and four fumbles recovered as a senior. As a junior, he totaled 90 tackles and 11 sacks. College career Joseph started every game (51 including bowl games) of his Miami career. Will Joseph (rugby Union, Born 1877)
Will Joseph (May 10, 1877 – 1959) was a Welsh international rugby union player. He was a member of the winning Welsh team who beat the 1905 touring All Blacks. He played club rugby for Swansea and county rugby for Glamorgan. Joseph was seen as the outstanding forward of the early 20th century Swansea team, during an excellent period in the 'All Whites' history.
