William I Van Brederode
Willem van Brederode (1226/30 in Santpoort – 3 June 1285 in Velsen) was Lord of Van Brederode, Brederode. Life He was the son of Dirk I van Brederode and Alvaradis van Heusden. William was only recognised as lord of Brederode in 1244, partially because he was a minor before that. Van Brederode accompanied William II, Count of Holland in his campaign against rebels above the Rhine in the Ruhr in 1248/49, and again in a campaign against the Friesland, West Frisians in 1256. He was knighted in 1255, and appointed bailiff of Kennemerland in 1269. On 25 June 1282 he was awarded the rights to Goudriaan, Hardinxveld, Papendrecht, Peursum and Slingeland. William died in 1285 and was buried in the Brederode-chapel of the Engelmundus-church in Velsen. Goudriaan
Goudriaan is a village in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Molenlanden, and lies about 25 km east of Rotterdam. Johannes A Leydis
Johannes a Leydis or Jan Gerbrandszoon van Leiden was a Dutch chronicler from the 15th century. A Leydis died in 1504. Life Not much is known with certainty about Johannes a Leydis' life. In all likelihood he came from a family of poorters (a special type of citizenship) from Leiden. He entered the carmelite monastery in Haarlem before 1455. In 1476 he was named prior of the monastery, but in 1479 we find him as prior of the monastery at Woudsend in Friesland. It seems that, during the struggles between the Vetkopers and Schieringers, discipline had become lax in the monastery. A Leydis attempted to reform the monastery, but apparently encountered so much resistance to his reforms that he was forced to leave in 1480. Dirk II Van Brederode
Dirk van Brederode ( 1256, Santpoort – 16 December 1318, Rheims Reims ( , , ; also spelled Rheims in English) is the most populous city in the French department of Marne, and the 12th most populous city in France. Papendrecht
Papendrecht () is a town and municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland, at the crossing of the River Beneden Merwede and the Noord River. The municipality had a population of in and covers an area of of which is water. Although Papendrecht is first mentioned in documents dating back to 1105, it remained a small settlement until the 1950s. Kennemerland
Kennemerland is a coastal region in the northwestern Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. It includes the sand dunes north of the North Sea Canal, as well as the dunes of Zuid-Kennemerland National Park. Velsen () is a municipality in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. It is located on both sides of the North Sea Canal. On the north side of the North Sea Canal there is a major steel plant, Tata Steel IJmuiden, formerly known as ''Koninklijke Hoogovens'' (the town of IJmuiden is actually located south of the canal).
