William Henry Hill Sr
William Henry Hill (6 November 1837 – 28 July 1911) was an Irish architect based in County Cork. After a fire all but destroyed Cork Courthouse, Washington Street, Hill was awarded the contract for its reconstruction. Hill was the diocesan architect for the Anglican Diocese of Cork, Cloyne and Ross from either 1872 or 1873 to c.1878, as well as the consulting architect to the Cork Lunatic Asylum board for almost forty years. William Henry Hill Jr
William Henry Hill (24 June 1867 – 31 October 1941) was an Irish architect based in County Cork. Biography William Henry Hill was born on 24 June 1867 into an established family of Cork architects. His father, also named William Henry Hill, was himself the son William Hill. Hill's uncles, Arthur Hill, and Arthur Richard Hill were architects, as was Henry Hill, brother of William and father of Arthur. William Henry's cousin, Henry Houghton Hill, was also an architect. Hill spent three years studying in Queen's College Cork (now known as University College Cork), after which he apprenticed with his father, who made him a partner in his firm in 1899. In 1907, Hill was made diocesan architect of the Diocese of Cork, Limerick and Cashel, a position he held for the following 30 years. Our Lady's Hospital ( ga, Ospidéal Mhuire) was a psychiatric hospital in Cork, County Cork, Ireland. History The hospital has its origins in a facility built in Old Blackrock Road close to present site of the South Infirmary in 1791. The facility joined the state system as a "district asylum", as defined in the Lunacy (Ireland) Act 1821, in 1845. In the late 1840s, a site in Shanakiel was identified for the construction of new hospital of sufficient size to meet the increasing requirements of the City. St Senan's Church, Inniscarra
St Senan's Church is a small Anglican Gothic Revival church located in Inniscarra, County Cork, Ireland. It is dedicated to Senán mac Geirrcinn, who is the patron saint of Inniscarra. Along with the Church of Saint Peter in Carrigrohane and the Church of the Resurrection in Blarney, it is part of the Carrigrohane Union of Parishes in the Diocese of Cork, Cloyne, and Ross. History The church was built to replace an earlier church nearby. This early church was built in the Early Georgian period, with a tower being added in 1756. It was abandoned after the construction of St Senan's, and is now a ruin. It sits on the site of a 6th-century church founded by St Senan. St Senan's was built in 1819, at a cost of IR£923. The Board of First Fruits supplied the loan. It replaced an older church nearby, the ruins of which are still standing. Abbeystrewry Church is an Anglican church located in Skibbereen, County Cork, Ireland. It was completed in 1890. It is part of Abbeystrewry Union of Parishes in the Diocese of Cork, Cloyne, and Ross. History Abbeystrewry Church is the second church on its site. The first church was built in 1827 at a cost of IR£1,200 and was funded in part by a loan from the Board of First Fruits. St Luke's Church is a deconsecrated Romanesque Revival Anglican church located in Summerhill North, Cork city, Ireland, currently owned by Cork City Council and in use as a live music venue stylized as Live at St Luke's. It was completed in 1830. It is dedicated to Luke the Evangelist, and was part of the Diocese of Cork, Cloyne, and Ross. History The current building was the third church to be built on this site, all of which have been dedicated to Luke the Evangelist. The first church was designed by George Richard Pain and was consecrated on 21 October 1837. Christ Church is a small Gothic Revival Anglican church located in Ballyhooly, County Cork, Ireland. It was completed in 1881. It is dedicated to Jesus Christ. It is part of the Fermoy Union of Parishes in the Diocese of Cork, Cloyne, and Ross.
