William Haydn Flood
William Haydn Flood (1830 – 17 July 1908) was an English organist and composer, who moved to New Zealand. Background He married twice: *Firstly, Mary Ann Turner on 12 May 1856 *Secondly Anne Catherine Juliette Groube on 5 September 1865 in New Zealand. He served in the 1st Regiment of Life Guards and was present at the funeral of the Duke of Wellington Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, (1 May 1769 – 14 September 1852) was an Anglo-Irish people, Anglo-Irish soldier and Tories (British political party), Tory statesman who was one of the leading military and political figures of Uni ..... He moved to New Zealand in the early 1860s. In 1867 he was appointed conductor of the Wanganui Choral Society. His military career continued in New Zealand where he served with the Wanganui Cavalry in the Maori War. 1st Regiment Of Life Guards
The 1st Regiment of Life Guards was a cavalry regiment in the British Army, part of the Household Cavalry. It was formed in 1788 by the union of the 1st Troop of Horse Guards and 1st Troop of Horse Grenadier Guards. In 1922, it was amalgamated with the 2nd Life Guards to form the Life Guards. History The regiment was formed in 1788 by the union of the 1st Troop of Horse Guards and 1st Troop of Horse Grenadier Guards. It fought in the Peninsular War and at the Waterloo. In 1877, it was renamed 1st Life Guards and contributed to the Household Cavalry Composite Regiment in the Anglo-Egyptian War, in the Second Boer War and in the First World War from August to November 1914. From 1916 to 1918, the Reserve Regiment contributed to the Household Battalion. In 1918, the regiment was converted to the 1st Battalion, Guards Machine Gun Regiment. Wellesley was born in Dublin into the Protestant Ascendancy in Ireland.
