William Hand (yacht Designer)
William H. Hand Jr. (1875–1946) was an American yacht designer. Hand has been described as one of the most prolific yacht designers of the 20th century with an exceptionally good eye for handsome boats.Bray, Anne and Maynard (2000). These latter were his specialty until after World War I, when he directed his talent to seakindly schooners including the famous examples '' Bowdoin'' and S.S.S. ''Lotus''. Later during the 1930s, motorsailers became his passion; examples still sailing include the ''Guildive'' (a ketch). Black Hand (William Derek Hand) is a DC Comics supervillain and a recurring foe to Green Lantern. Publication history Black Hand first appeared in ''Green Lantern'' vol. 2 #29 (June 1964) and was created by John Broome and Gil Kane. The character's name is a tribute to DC writer and Batman co-creator Bill Finger, on whom the character was based. Fictional character biography William Hand is born an inventive genius; developing a penchant for speaking in extremely old clichés later in life. William's family, the Hands, are renowned in Coastville (a suburb of Coast City, California); however, he grows to dislike them early in life. William Brevard Hand
William Brevard Hand (January 18, 1924 – September 6, 2008) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Alabama. Early life and education Born in Mobile, Alabama, where his father, Charles C. Hand, served as president of the local bar association and founded the law firm of Hand, Arendell. His father had moved from Shubuta, Mississippi (on the Chickasawhay River in Clarke County near the Alabama border) circa 1920, where his father (Hand's grandfather) was a physician. Hand graduated from Murphy High School, then served from 1943 to 1946 in the United States Army as a combat infantry rifleman during World War II. He then used the G.I. Bill to attend college at the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa and received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1947.
