William Hammond (cyclist)
William Robert Hammond (2 July 1886 – 13 January 1960) was a British road racing cyclist who competed in the 1912 Summer Olympics. He was born in Eastbourne, Sussex England,1901 Census - 22 Broadway, Bexleyheath, KentEngland & Wales Birth Indexes, Jul-Sep Quarter 1886, William Robert Hammond, Eastbourne Registration District, Volume 2b Page 81 and was part of the team which won the silver medal in the Team road race. In the individual road race he finished 22nd. Hammond was the son of David Hammond, a painter, and Emily, a laundress. Eastbourne
Eastbourne () is a town and seaside resort in East Sussex, on the south coast of England, east of Brighton and south of London. Eastbourne is immediately east of Beachy Head, the highest chalk sea cliff in Great Britain and part of the larger Eastbourne Downland Estate. Bexleyheath is a town in south-east London, England. It had a population of 31,929 as at 2011. Bexleyheath is located south-east of Charing Cross, and forms part of the London Borough of Bexley. It is identified in the London Plan as one of 35 major centres in London.
