William H. Walker (Canadian Politician)
William H. Walker (July 25, 1847 – June 25, 1913) was a Canadian politician. Born in Ochiltree Manse, Ayrshire, Scotland, Walker emigrated to Canada in 1858. Walker was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Quebec for Huntingdon in 1900. A Liberal, he was acclaimed in 1904 and 1908. Legislative Assembly Of Quebec
The Legislative Assembly of Quebec (French: ''Assemblée législative du Québec'') was the name of the lower house of Quebec's legislature from 1867 to December 31, 1968, when it was renamed the National Assembly of Quebec. At the same time, the upper house of the legislature, the Legislative Council, was abolished. Both were initially created by the Constitution Act, 1867. It was the Union Nationale government of Premier Jean-Jacques Bertrand that passed the "Bill 90" legislation to abolish the upper house, but earlier attempts had been made by earlier governments. The presiding officer of the Assembly was known in French as ''orateur'', a literal translation of the English term, ''speaker''. When the Assembly was renamed so too was the title of its presiding officer, becoming known as the President. Today, Quebec has a unicameral legislature, whose single house is the National Assembly. The 1904 Quebec general election was held on November 25, 1904, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Quebec, Canada. The incumbent Quebec Liberal Party, led by Simon-Napoléon Parent, was re-elected, defeating the Quebec Conservative Party, led by Edmund James Flynn. It was Parent's final election. Due to internal dissension within his party, he resigned in 1905, and was succeeded as Liberal leader and premier by Lomer Gouin. Huntingdon (provincial Electoral District)
Huntingdon is a provincial electoral district in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It notably includes the municipalities of Sainte-Martine, Napierville, Ormstown, Saint-Michel, Saint-Anicet, Lacolle and Sainte-Clotilde. It was originally created for the 1867 election. Its final election was in 1989 and its successor electoral district was Beauharnois-Huntingdon. It was re-created for the 2003 election from parts of Beauharnois-Huntingdon and Saint-Jean electoral districts.
