William H. Twenhofel
William Henry Twenhofel (16 April 1875 – 4 January 1957) was an American sedimentary geologist who wrote a landmark text ''Treatise on Sedimentation'' (1926) which went into more editions. He served for many years as a professor of geology at the University of Wisconsin. The Society for Sedimentary Geology, Society of Economic Paleontologists and Mineralogists instituted the William H. Twenhofel Medal, Twenhofel Medal in his memory. Twenhofel was born in Covington, Kentucky, to German-immigrant farming family of Helena Steuwer and Ernst A. H. J. Twenhofel. He grew up working on the farm and was educated at local public schools. From 1896 he taught in local schools in winter and worked in summer to earn for his livelihood. In 1902 he went to the National Normal School in Lebanon, Ohio, receiving a BA in 1904. He then taught at the Texas A&M University–Commerce, East Texas Normal College. Society For Sedimentary Geology
The Society for Sedimentary Geology is an international not-for-profit, scientific society based in Oklahoma. It is commonly referred to by its acronym SEPM, which refers to its former name, the Society of Economic Paleontologists and Mineralogists. The Society’s reason for being is to disseminate scientific information on sedimentology, stratigraphy, paleontology, environmental sciences, marine geology, hydrogeology, and related specialties. Members benefit from both gaining and exchanging information pertinent to their geologic specialties. Charles Schuchert
Charles Schuchert (July 3, 1858 – November 20, 1942) was an American invertebrate paleontologist who was a leader in the development of paleogeography, the study of the distribution of lands and seas in the geological past. Biography He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on July 3, 1858 to Philip and Agatha (Mueller) Schuchert. He received a common school education up to the age of thirteen, and then he spent a number of years working in his father's furniture business. Schuchert possessed an aptitude for scientific investigation, and in 1878 he began to attend meetings of the Cincinnati Society of Natural History. Here he developed a friendship with fellow Cincinnati native Edward Oscar Ulrich. The two collected and studied fossils from the Cincinnati area for ten years.
