William Freeman (martyr)
William Freeman (c. 1558 – 13 August 1595) was an English Roman Catholic priest during the Reformation. He was convicted of treason and hanged, drawn and quartered at Warwick. He is one of 136 Catholic martyrs who were beatified by Pius XI in 1929. Life The 1913 Catholic Encyclopedia states: e wasborn at Manthorp near York. His parents were recusant Catholic, but he was conforming Anglican for some time. He was educated at Magdalen College, Oxford, and took his degree as BA in 1581. He then lived for some years in London. He witnessed the execution of Edward Stransham in 1586. Strongly impressed with this example, he left England and was ordained priest in 1587 at Reims. Returning to England in 1589, he worked for six years on the borders of Warwickshire. William Freeman (politician)
William Freeman (c. 1741c. 1801) was a land surveyor and political figure in Nova Scotia. He represented Amherst Township from 1783 to 1785 and Cumberland County from 1793 to 1799 in the Legislative Assembly of Nova Scotia. He was living in Amherst township in 1770. Freeman served as registrar of deeds for Cumberland County. He was first elected to the assembly in a 1783 by-election, the first election held for Amherst Township. He was re-elected in 1785, but the election was declared invalid Dec. 9,1785, as he was no longer an inhabitant. He was elected in 1793 for Cumberland County, serving through 1799. William Henry Freeman
William Henry Freeman (May 10, 1844 – August 26, 1911) was a Union Army soldier during the American Civil War. He received the Medal of Honor for gallantry during the Second Battle of Fort Fisher on January 15, 1865. Military service Freeman enlisted in the Army from his birthplace of Troy, New York in September 1862, and was assigned to Company B of the 169th New York Volunteer Infantry. On January 15, 1865, the North Carolina Confederate stronghold of Fort Fisher was taken by a combined Union storming party of sailors, marines, and soldiers under the command of Admiral David Dixon Porter and General Alfred Terry. Freeman mustered out with his regiment in July 1865. William Bradford Freeman (born October 21, 1938) is a Canadian writer of historical fiction for young adults, film scripts, documentaries, theatrical plays, educational videos and non-fiction books. He specializes in writing about Canada and the Canadian experience. Biography After high school, Freeman worked in western Canada for a year and then traveled extensively in Europe. He returned to Canada to attend Acadia University in Nova Scotia. After graduating he worked as a Probation Officer and then did graduate work in sociology at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. Freeman began to write the Bains Series of books for young adults while living in Hamilton. There are now nine books in the Bains Series. Each focuses on a different industrial setting in Canada during the 1870s.
