William Fitzwilliam, 1st Earl Fitzwilliam
William Fitzwilliam, 1st Earl Fitzwilliam MP (29 April 1643 – 28 December 1719) was an English nobleman, Whig politician, and peer. Fitzwilliam was the son of William FitzWilliam, 2nd Baron FitzWilliam and Jane Perry. On 21 February 1658, he succeeded to his father's title. As his title was in the Peerage of Ireland, Fitzwilliam was able to sit in the House of Commons of England, and served as the Member of Parliament for Peterborough Peterborough () is a cathedral city in Cambridgeshire, east of England. Earl Fitzwilliam (or FitzWilliam) was a title in both the Peerage of Ireland and the Peerage of Great Britain held by the head of the Fitzwilliam family (later Wentworth-Fitzwilliam). History The Fitzwilliams acquired extensive holdings in the south of the West Riding of Yorkshire, largely through strategic marital alliances. In 1410, Sir John Fitzwilliam of Sprotborough, who died in 1421, married Margaret Clarell, daughter of Thomas Clarell of Aldwark, the descendant of a major Norman landholding family. This is how the Fitzwilliams acquired the Clarell holdings. Sir William Fitzwilliam (–1534) was an Alderman and Sheriff of London and acquired the Milton Hall estate in Peterborough in 1502. Francis St John
Francis St John (1634 - 29 July 1705) was an English lawyer and politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1654 and 1698. St John was the eldest son of Oliver St John of Keysoe, Bedfordshire, and Thorpe Hall, Northamptonshire, and his first wife Joanna Altham, daughter of Sir James Altham of Markshall, Latton, Essex. He was educated at Oundle School and admitted at Emmanuel College, Cambridge on 21 July 1648 and at Lincoln's Inn on 14 November 1648. In October 1654, St John was elected Member of Parliament for Tewkesbury in a by-election for the First Protectorate Parliament, although apparently he never took his seat. He was called to the bar in 1656 and was elected MP for Peterborough for the Second Protectorate Parliament.
