William Fiero Russell
William Fiero Russell (January 14, 1812 – April 29, 1896) was an American banker who served one term as a U.S. Representative from New York from 1857 to 1859. Biography He was born in Saugerties, New York on January 14, 1812, to Jeremiah Russell. He completed preparatory studies, and then became active in several businesses, often ventures in which his father also had an interest. He was the founder and president of the Saugerties Bank. He served as postmaster of Saugerties from October 19, 1836, to January 25, 1841. Russell was a member of the New York State Assembly (Ulster Co., 1st D.) in 1851. Jeremiah Russell
Jeremiah Russell (January 26, 1786 – September 30, 1867) was an American businessman and banker who served one term as a U.S. Representative from New York from 1843 to 1845. Biography Born in Saugerties, New York, Russell received limited schooling. His father died when Russell was nine years old, and he aided in the support of his family by working on local farms until becoming a clerk in a store in order to learn the retail business. He served as postmaster in Saugerties, and engaged in several business ventures, including ownership of a general store shipbuilding, real estate, road and turnpike construction, and banking. Russell later transferred most of his business ventures to his sons and concentrated on banking. Political career He served Town Supervisor from 1825 to 1828, 1830 to 1833, and 1837 to 1840. New York's 11th congressional district is a congressional district for the United States House of Representatives in New York City. The 11th district includes all of Staten Island and parts of southern Brooklyn, including the neighborhoods of Bay Ridge, Bath Beach, Dyker Heights, south western Gravesend, western Sheepshead Bay, and parts of southern Bensonhurst. The 11th District is currently represented by Republican Nicole Malliotakis, who is currently the only Republican to represent any part of New York City in Congress. Saugerties () is a Administrative divisions of New York#Town, town in the northeastern corner of Ulster County, New York, Ulster County, New York (state), New York.
