William F. Scoresby
William Frederick Scoresby (January 2, 1840 Fallsburg, New York, Fallsburg, Sullivan County, New York – 1884) was an American physician and politician from New York (state), New York. Life He was the son of Thomas Scoresby MD (1804–1866) and Louisa (Richardson) Scoresby (1804–1875). The couple emigrated to the United States in 1834, settling first in Port Jervis, New York, then in Fallsburgh. In 1840, the family removed to Ellenville, New York, Ellenville. William studied medicine with his father, graduated from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City in 1864, and practiced medicine in Ellenville. On January 29, 1867, he married Marilda S. "Lillie" Ernhout (1842–1867) who died suddenly eight months later while he was in England. Fallsburg, New York
Fallsburg is a town in Sullivan County, New York, United States. The town is in the eastern part of the county. The population was 14,192 at the 2020 census. (It is not to be confused with the hamlet of Fallsburg which bears a similar name and is within the town of Fallsburg.) History On March 9, 1826, the New York State Legislature passed an act establishing the town of Fallsburg. The town was created from parts of the towns of Thompson and Neversink. Fallsburg takes its name from a waterfall on the Neversink River and was established in 1826. One month later, on April 4, the first town meeting was held in the schoolhouse where the hamlet of Fallsburg is today. The Neversink River runs from north to south through the town and played an important role in its early development. Wawarsing is a town in Ulster County, New York, United States. The population was 12,771 at the 2020 census. The name Wawarsing was once believed to mean "a place where the streams wind" in the Lenape language, referring to the geography in the hamlet of Wawarsing. Specifically, the joining of the Ver Nooy Kill and the Rondout Creek at Port Ben. The name Wawarsing was used by the Lenape to designate the current hamlet and the fields to the north and south of it for at least six miles in both directions. It is the only Lenape name known to refer to an exact location in Ulster County. The town is in the western part of the county. The southern and easternmost portions are on the Shawangunk Ridge.
