William F. Rylaarsdam
William F. Rylaarsdam (February 13, 1937 – August 3, 2020) was an associate justice of the California Courts of Appeal, Fourth District, Division Three. He was appointed by Governor Pete Wilson and, after his confirmation, took the oath of office on April 10, 1995. He was retained by voters in the November 5, 2002 election. Biography Rylaarsdam was a native of the Netherlands whose family immigrated to the United States when he was 16 years old. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1957, then went on to receive his law degree from Loyola Law School in 1964 (after attending night courses at Loyola as a married father with two children at the time). In 1998, he received his Master of Laws degree from the University of Virginia School of Law. On August 3, 2020, the Honorable William Frederick Rylaarsdam died at his home in Rancho Santa Margarita. George Deukmejian
Courken George Deukmejian Jr. (; June 6, 1928 – May 8, 2018) was an American politician who served as the 35th governor of California from 1983 to 1991. Of Armenian descent, Deukmejian was a member of the Republican Party and he also served as the attorney general of California from 1979 to 1983. Early life and education Deukmejian was born Courken George Deukmejian Jr. in Menands, New York. His parents were Armenians born in the Armenian Highlands, who emigrated from the Ottoman Empire to the United States in the early 1900s. Peter Barton Wilson (born August 23, 1933) is an American attorney and politician who served as the 36th governor of California from 1991 to 1999. A member of the Republican Party, he also served as a United States senator from California between 1983 and 1991, and as the 29th mayor of San Diego from 1971 to 1983. Insurance bad faith is a tort unique to the law of the United States (but with parallels elsewhere, particularly Canada) that an insurance company commits by violating the "implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing" which automatically exists by operation of law in every insurance contract. In common law countries such as Australia and the UK, the issue is usually framed in the context of a failure of the duty of utmost good faith originating in English insurance law, which does not constitute a tort but rather provides the insured a contractual remedy unique to insurance law.
