William Dean Howells
William Dean Howells (; March 1, 1837 – May 11, 1920) was an American realist novelist, literary critic, and playwright, nicknamed "The Dean of American Letters". He was particularly known for his tenure as editor of ''The Atlantic Monthly'', as well as for his own prolific writings, including the Christmas story "Christmas Every Day" and the novels ''The Rise of Silas Lapham'' and '' A Traveler from Altruria''. Biography Early life and family William Dean Howells was born on March 1, 1837, in Martinsville, Ohio (now known as Martins Ferry, Ohio), to William Cooper Howells and Mary Dean Howells, the second of eight children. His father was a newspaper editor and printer who moved frequently around Ohio. William Reginald Dean
William Reginald Dean (1896–1973) was a British applied mathematician and fluid dynamicist. His research interests included Stokes flow, solid mechanics, and flow in curved channels. The Dean number bears his name. Dean carried out pioneering work in the study of fluid flow at low Reynolds numbers, by applying methods from elasticity theory. Some of his more famous results include solutions for secondary flow in curved tubes, for the perturbation to shear flow near a wall caused by a gap in the wall, and for flow in a corner. Dean was an undergraduate at Trinity College, Cambridge. He spent five years at Imperial College, and was later a fellow of Trinity College. During the war he undertook mathematical work as part of the ''Anti-Aircraft Experimental Section of M.I.D.'' William The Dean
William the Dean was a 13th-century bishop of Dunkeld. He had been a dean of the diocese of Dunkeld, and was elected to the bishopric when news of the death of bishop-elect Hugo de Strivelin arrived from Rome. William soon travelled to Continental Europe for his consecration, and on the orders of the pope, was consecrated by Cardinal Ordonius, bishop of Tusculum. All of this happened by 13 December 1283, when it is related in a letter of Pope Martin IV. Unusually for bishops of Dunkeld, very little is known of his episcopate. William Dean Chocolates is an artisan chocolate maker in the Belleair Bluffs section of Largo, Florida, Largo in Pinellas County, Florida. Their chocolate truffles are hand-painted in delicate designs including the marble swirl of purple, bronze and red on the PB&J, a purple dotted port wine with Common fig, fig, and a lavender truffle in a butterfly shape. The business is owned by chocolatier Bill Brown who founded it in 2007. It is named for his father (William) and grandfather (Dean). Valrhona chocolate is used as well as authentic ingredients, some exotic. Bill Dean is an American politician serving as the state representative for the 74th District of the Ohio House of Representatives. He is a Republican. The district includes Madison County as well as portions of Clark County and Greene County. Life and career Dean is a lifelong resident of Xenia, Ohio and has been a licensed plumber for over thirty years. For the past twenty-six years, Dean has owned and operated Dean's Plumbing, based in Xenia and serving southwest Ohio. He has been married for over forty years and is the father of ten. His son-in-law, Ron Hood, is credited for encouraging Dean to run for office. Billy Dean Anderson
Billy Dean Anderson (July 12, 1934 – July 7, 1979) was an American criminal. He was jailed and paroled three times, and his 20 year crime career included armed robbery and prison escapes. He was added to the FBI Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list in 1975. Despite his unlawful behavior, Anderson became somewhat of a folk hero among those in his native Tennessee, even more so after he was shot and killed by FBI officers while evading arrest. Early life Anderson was born in the Pall Mall, a community in Fentress County, Tennessee, the same Wolf River valley where World War I hero Alvin C. York hailed. Little is known about his early life.
