William Davies (psychologist)
William Davies (born 27 December 1950) is a Consultant Psychologist and author who, through his role in the Association for Psychological Therapies (APT) has directly influenced well over 125,000 mental health professionals, mainly in the UK. He has designed a number of noted approaches to working in clinical settings, including The DICES Risk Assessment and Management System and The RAID Course for Working with Challenging Behaviour. These approaches have been incorporated by many healthcare providers, including Partnerships in Care, St Andrew's Healthcare and the UK National Health Service (NHS). In his early career he was known for being the first psychologist professionally employed in top flight English football, and one of a handful of psychologists involved in the aftermath of the Piper Alpha disaster. Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental and behavioral disorder that can develop because of exposure to a traumatic event, such as sexual assault, warfare, traffic collisions, child abuse, domestic violence, or other threats on a person's life. Symptoms may include disturbing thoughts, feelings, or dreams related to the events, mental or physical distress to trauma-related cues, attempts to avoid trauma-related cues, alterations in the way a person thinks and feels, and an increase in the fight-or-flight response. These symptoms last for more than a month after the event. Young children are less likely to show distress but instead may express their memories through play. A person with PTSD is at a higher risk of suicide and intentional self-harm. Most people who experience traumatic events do not develop PTSD. Arnold Lodge is a medium secure psychiatric hospital situated in Leicester, England, run by Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. History The hospital was opened in July 1983 and an extension with 30 extra beds was opened in 2007. Services Arnold Lodge receives referrals from courts, prisons, the probation service, social services, high secure hospitals, and other mental health units for forensic psychiatry assessment and/or treatment. HMP Bristol (previously known as Horfield Prison) is a Category B men's prison, located in the Horfield area of Bristol. The prison is operated by His Majesty's Prison Service. History The prison was built in 1883. The B and C wings were added to the prison in the 1960s. Bristol's history includes fourteen executions, of which the last took place on 17 December 1963 when Russell Pascoe was hanged for the murder of William Rowe during a robbery.
