William D. Cohen
William David Cohen (born January 21, 1957) is a Vermont attorney and judge. He has served as an Associate Justice of the Vermont Supreme Court since December 2019. Education and legal career William David Cohen was born in Queens, New York on January 21, 1957, the son of Herbert and Sandra (Jacobs) Cohen. He attended the public schools of Rutland City, Vermont and graduated from Rutland High School in 1975. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Science from George Washington University in 1980 and a Juris Doctor degree from Vermont Law School in 1984. While attending college, Cohen worked in the Washington, DC office of US Senator Robert Stafford. While attending law school, he worked as a clerk in the legal department of the Central Vermont Public Service Corporation, followed by a part-time position as a clerk in the office of the state’s attorney for Rutland County. Killington, Vermont
Killington is a town in Rutland County, Vermont, United States. The population was 1,407 at the 2020 census. Killington Ski Resort and numerous vacation lodges are located here. The town was previously named Sherburne, but was renamed to its original name, "Killington", in 1999. History The town of Killington was chartered on July 7, 1761, by a New Hampshire grant. In 1800, it was renamed Sherburne after landholder Colonel Benjamin Sherburne. The town voted to revert to its original name of Killington on March 2, 1999; which was approved by the Vermont General Assembly and became effective July 1, 1999. The 2007 town meeting considered a proposal to impose a three-cent surcharge on every dollar of property tax revenue. The proceeds would have been used to fund a town economic development group. Rutland County is a county located in the U.S. state of Vermont. As of the 2020 census, the population was 60,572, making it the second-most populous county in Vermont. Its county seat and most populous municipality is the city of Rutland. History On February 16, 1781, Rutland County was created from Bennington County. From June 26, 1781, until February 23, 1782, Vermont attempted to annex part of New York east of the Hudson River (the so-called West Union); inhabitants in the area favored Vermont's township form of government, while Vermont hoped to gain bargaining power through expansion.
