William Craven-Ellis
William Craven Craven-Ellis (1880 – 17 December 1959), born William Craven Ellis, was a Conservative Party politician in the United Kingdom. Ellis was educated at Manchester Grammar School, and became a senior partner of Ellis & Sons, Valuers and Surveyors. He assumed the name Craven-Ellis by deed poll in 1931. In the 1929 general election, he unsuccessfully contested the safe Labour-held seat of Barnsley, where he came third with only 15% of the votes. In the 1931 general election, he was elected as Member of Parliament (MP) for Southampton, and held the seat until his defeat in the 1945 general election. In the House of Commons The House of Commons is the name for the elected lower house of the bicameral parliaments of the United Kingdom and Canada. Tommy Lewis (trade Unionist)
Thomas Lewis (12 December 1873 – 28 February 1962) was a British trade unionist, local councillor and Labour Member of Parliament (MP). Biography Lewis was born in the St. Mary's area of Southampton, the son of dock labourer from Jersey in the Channel Islands. He began work as a watchmaker at the age of 11. In the late 1880s, he became involved with the Social Democratic Federation and went on to serve for nine years on the Federation's National Executive. In 1901, Lewis was elected as Southampton's first Labour councillor. He served on the Borough council until 1961, except for two short breaks totalling 18 months Lewis was selected by Southampton Trades Council to contest the Southampton constituency in the January 1910 General Election but was forced to withdraw through lack of funds. Ralph Morley
Ralph Morley (25 October 1882 – 14 June 1955) was a Labour politician in the United Kingdom. He was a Member of Parliament (MP) from 1929 to 1931, and from 1945 until his death. Born in Chichester, Morley was educated privately, then at University College Southampton, before becoming a schoolteacher. He joined the Social Democratic Federation, and served as the secretary of its Southampton branch from 1908 until 1913, but later moved to the Independent Labour Party. He was also president of Southampton Trades Council in 1911 and 1920, and was active in the Southampton Class Teachers' Association and the National Union of Teachers. He was elected to Southampton Urban District Council, and was its chair in 1920.
