William Collier (colonist)
William Collier (1671) was an English colonist in Massachusetts. He came to Plymouth Colony in 1633 as one of the few London-based Merchant Adventurers, a colony investment group, to settle in New England. He was often elected as an Assistant Governor in the thirty-some years between 1634/5 and 1665. He was on the side of the government leaders in the historic 1645 dispute with liberal religious leader William Vassall. Truro (UK Parliament Constituency)
Truro was the name of a parliamentary constituency in Cornwall represented in the House of Commons of England and later of Great Britain from 1295 until 1800, then in the Parliament of the United Kingdom from 1801 to 1918 and finally from 1950 to 1997. Until 1885 it was a parliamentary borough, electing two members of parliament (MPs) by the plurality-at-large system of election; the name was then transferred to the surrounding county constituency, which elected a single Member by the first past the post system. In 1997, although there had been no changes to its boundaries, it was renamed as Truro and St Austell, reflecting the fact that St Austell by then had a larger population than Truro. William Collier (footballer)
William Collier (11 December 1892 – 17 April 1954) was a Scottish footballer who played for Raith Rovers, Sheffield Wednesday, Kettering Town (as player-manager) and Scotland. His introduction into professional football was delayed until he was in his late 20s due to World War I, during which he served in the Fife and Forfar Yeomanry and the Black Watch. Barely two years after making his first appearance for Raith (where alongside the likes of David Morris he was part of the side that secured their highest ever league finishes: 3rd in 1921–22 and 4th in 1923–24), he had been selected for his only international cap, against Wales in February 1922. William Miller Collier (November 11, 1867 – April 15, 1956) was United States Ambassador to Spain from 1905 to 1909, the president of George Washington University from 1918 to 1921, and United States Ambassador to Chile from 1921 to 1928. Biography He was born November 11, 1867, in Lodi, New York. He graduated from Hamilton College with a B.A. in 1889 and then a M.A. in 1892. He was a member of the Chi Psi fraternity at Hamilton College. After receiving his law degree, he was admitted to the New York State Bar Association in 1892 and he then established a law firm in Auburn, New York where he practiced until 1903. From 1903 to 1904 he worked in the office of the United States Attorney General concentrating on antitrust issues. In 1904 he was nominated to be an attorney for the Department of Commerce and Labor.
