Bill Christian
William David Christian (born January 29, 1938) is an American former ice hockey player. He led the United States to a gold medal at the 1960 Winter Olympics. He was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in 1984 and the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame in 1998. Career Christian played prep school hockey at Warroad High School where he led the team to the 1953 state tournament finals. Christian then attended the University of Minnesota. However, since freshman were not allowed to join varsity sports teams at the time, Christian describes it as a “lost season.” After one year at the University of Minnesota, Christian joined the United States National Team. He led the United States to a gold medal at the 1960 Winter Olympics. During the Olympics, Christian led the team with seven goals and five assists as they became the first American team to play in the Soviet Union. Illiam Dhone
or (literally meaning 'Brown William' in English) (14 April 16082 January 1663), also known as William Christian, was a Manx politician and depending on viewpoint, patriot, rebel or traitor. He was a son of Ewan Christian, a deemster. In Manx, ' literally translates to ''Brown William''—an epithet he received due to his dark hair—and in English he was called Brown-haired William. Dhone was a significant figure in the Isle of Man during the English Civil War and the Manx Rebellion of 1651. He was executed for high treason in 1663. In the centuries after his death he has become a "martyr and folk-hero, a symbol of the Island's cherished freedoms and traditional rights". William Christian (Virginia Politician)
William Christian ( 1742 – April 9, 1786) was a military officer, planter and politician from the western part of the Colony of Virginia. He represented Fincastle County in the House of Burgesses and as relations with Britain soured, signed the Fincastle Resolutions. He later represented western Virginia in the Virginia Senate and founded Fort William (now Louisville, Kentucky), as well as helped negotiate the Treaty of Long Island of the Holston, which made peace between the Overmountain Men and Cherokees in 1777. He was killed in 1786 at the outset of the Northwest Indian War, leading an expedition against Native Americans near what is now Jeffersonville, Indiana. William Christian (political Scientist)
William Edward Christian (born 1945 in Queen Charlotte Islands, British Columbia) was a political scientist at the University of Guelph. He retired in 2008. Educated at the University of Toronto (BA, MA) and the London School of Economics (PhD), he is best known academically for his research and teaching in Canadian political thought. Beginning in 1970, he taught at Mount Allison University. He joined the faculty at Guelph in 1978. His publications include biographies of George Grant and Sir George Parkin, George Grant's grandfather, as well as topics ranging from the political and economic history of Canada (i.e. ''The Idea File of Harold Adams Innis''), to a concern for the philosophical roots of the Western tradition (i.e. "Waiting for Grace: Philosophy and Politics in Plato's Republic").
