William C. Lea
William Charles Lea (March 22, 1833 – March 1911) was a farmer and political figure on Prince Edward Island. He represented 4th Prince in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1876 to 1879 as a Liberal. He was born in Tryon, Prince Edward Island Tryon is an unincorporated area in Prince County, Prince Edward Island, Canada. Situated on Route 1 and Route 10, it lies within the township of Lot 28 which in 2006 had a population of 880 people. Tryon is not far from Crapaud, Prince Edward ..., the son of John Lea and Hannah Maxfield. He was married twice: to Rebecca E. Reid in 1858 and to Annie Murphy in 1865. The Prince Edward Island Liberal Party (officially the ''Prince Edward Island Liberal Association'') is a political party in the province of Prince Edward Island, Canada. The PEI Liberals are affiliated with the federal Liberal Party of Canada. History The party was created when PEI was a British colony by reformers who agitated for the system of responsible government. This was granted by the British crown to the colony in 1851. George Coles was its dominant figure in its first decades. While initially supportive of Canadian Confederation, Coles and the Liberals soured on the project, and it was not until 1873 that the island joined Canada as a means of relieving the PEI government's severe debts. Tryon, Prince Edward Island
Tryon is an unincorporated area in Prince County, Prince Edward Island, Canada. Situated on Route 1 and Route 10, it lies within the township of Lot 28 which in 2006 had a population of 880 people. Tryon is not far from Crapaud, Prince Edward Island. The area is mostly rural. In 1856, Charles E. Stanfield and his brother-in-law Samuel Dawson founded Tryon Woollen Mills in Tryon. Charles sold his interest to Samuel a decade later and moved to Truro, Nova Scotia where he founded the well-known Stanfields Underwear, which still operates. Tryon was named after William Tryon (1729-1788) an American colonial governor who also served in Canada. There are two churches: one Baptist, and one United. Walter Lea
Walter Maxfield Lea (February 10, 1874 – January 10, 1936) was a Prince Edward Island politician. A farmer and livestock breeder by profession, Lea was born in Tryon, Prince Edward Island, Tryon, the son of William C. Lea and Annie Murphy. He was elected to the provincial House of Assembly in 1915 as a Liberal Party of Prince Edward Island, Liberal and became commissioner of agriculture in 1919. In 1930 Lea became premier when his predecessor was appointed to the Supreme Court of Prince Edward Island but the Great Depression took a toll on the government's popularity and he lost the election the next year to the rival Conservative Party of Prince Edward Island. Lea rebuilt the party while in parliamentary opposition, opposition and in 1935 the Liberals won all 30 seats in the legislature, the first time such a thing had ever happened in the British Empire.
