William C. Irvine (politician)
William C. Irvine (March 3, 1852 – July 27, 1924) was an American politician who served as the Treasurer of Wyoming as a Republican Party (United States), Republican. Life William C. Irvine was born in Carlisle, Pennsylvania on March 3, 1852 to James Ross and Jane M. Irvine. In 1872 he moved to the Wyoming Territory and became active in the cattle industry with him becoming the manager of the Ogalalla Cattle Company, the largest cattle company in Wyoming. In 1889 he was selected as one of the Democratic delegates to the Wyoming constitutional convention to draft its constitution to be submitted for statehood. During the Johnson County War he joined 23 gunmen and 4 cattle detectives from the Wyoming Stock Growers Association with Bob Tisdale, W. J. Clarke, and Hubert Teshemacher and later became involved in a shootout where he was wounded. In April 1892 he was arrested for shooting O. H. Flagg, a cattle rustler, but was found not guilty. Wyoming Senate
The Wyoming Senate is the upper house of the Wyoming State Legislature. There are 30 Senators in the Senate, representing an equal number of constituencies across Wyoming, each with a population of at least 17,000. The Senate meets at the Wyoming State Capitol in Cheyenne. Members of the Senate serve four year terms without term limits. Term limits were declared unconstitutional by the Wyoming Supreme Court in 2004, overturning a decade-old law that had restricted Senators to three terms (twelve years). Like other upper houses of state and territorial legislatures and the federal U.S. Senate, the Wyoming Senate can confirm or reject gubernatorial appointments to the state cabinet, commissions, boards, or justices to the Wyoming Supreme Court. 1910 Wyoming Gubernatorial Election
The 1910 Wyoming gubernatorial election was held on November 8, 1910. Incumbent Republican Governor Bryant B. Brooks declined to seek re-election. The leading Republican candidates to succeed him were initially former U.S. Senator Joseph M. Carey and Attorney General William E. Mullen. However, shortly before the Republican convention, Carey announced he would instead run as an independent candidate. Shortly thereafter, Mullen was formally nominated by the Republican Party. A week later, at the Democratic convention, Carey was named as the Democratic nominee for Governor. In the general election matchup between Carey and Mullen, Carey won a sizable victory, winning every county in the state, a feat that no other Democratic nominee would accomplish until Dave Freudenthal in 2006.
