William Burke (baseball)
William R. "Bill" Burke (November, 1865 – March 17, 1939) was an American professional baseball pitcher and outfielder, who played in 1887 with the Detroit Wolverines, of the National League. He threw right-handed. Burke had a 0–1 record, with a 6.00 ERA, in two games, in his one-year career. He also had 2 hits in 8 at-bats. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk.
