William Brydges
William Brydges was a Canadian man whose arrest for murder resulted in the leading Supreme Court of Canada case '' R v Brydges'' on the right of a detainee to access duty counsel. His case was a Canadian precedent, and created significant controversy after the Supreme Court of Canada upheld his acquittal. He was found to have been denied access to an attorney because he was not informed of legal services available to him when he told police he could not afford a lawyer. This case had nationwide ramifications, requiring all police officers to advise a person under arrest of the availability of legal services even if they couldn't afford them. Arrest William Brydges was arrested on December 16, 1985 in connection with the murder of Mrs. MacLeod, which took place on March 29, 1979. William Brydges, 4th Baron Chandos
William Brydges, 4th Baron Chandos (ca. 1552 – 1602) was an English peer and politician. He was the younger son and heir of Edmund Brydges, 2nd Baron Chandos and Dorothy, the youngest daughter and child of Sir Edmund Braye, 1st Baron Braye. In 1588, he was captain of a company of the Gloucestershire Trained Bands in Queen Elizabeth I's army facing the invasion threat of the Spanish Armada. He succeeded his elder brother as Baron Chandos, and served as Lord Lieutenant of Gloucestershire and Member of Parliament for Cricklade. Family Chandos married Mary Hopton (d. 1624), daughter of Sir Owen Hopton of Cockfield, Yoxford, and Anne Echingham. William Bridges-Maxwell
Crawford William Bridges-Maxwell (27 September 1929 – 15 April 1992) was an Australian politician. Born in Hobart, Tasmania, he was educated at Geelong Grammar School and then the Royal Agricultural College in England, after which he became a veterinary scientist. In 1964, following the resignation of Roger Dean, Bridges-Maxwell was selected as the Liberal candidate for the Australian House of Representatives seat of Robertson in New South Wales, which he won in the by-election A by-election, also known as a special election in the United States and the Philippines, a bye-election in Ireland, a bypoll in India, or a Zimni election (Urdu: ضمنی انتخاب, supplementary election) in Pakistan, is an election used to f ... resulting from Dean's resignation. William Bridges Adams
William Bridges Adams (1797 – 23 July 1872) was an English author, inventor and locomotive engineer. He is best known for his patented Adams axle – a successful radial axle design in use on railways in Britain until the end of steam traction in 1968 – and the railway fishplate. His writings, including ''English Pleasure Carriages'' (1837) and ''Roads and Rails'' (1862) covered all forms of land transport. Later he became a noted writer on political reform, under the pen name ''Junius Redivivus'' ( Junius reborn); a reference to a political letter writer of the previous century. Personal life He was born and grew up in Woore, Shropshire, close to Madeley, Staffordshire, and was educated at the Madeley School. His father, the son of a yeoman farmer of Woore, moved to London where he worked his way from a journeyman coachbuilder to master tradesman. William Brydges (organist)
William Brydges (c. 1775 – 12 February 1835) was an organist and composer based in England. Life He acted as Adjutant of the Loyal Newark Volunteers during the Napoleonic Wars.The Victoria history of the county of Nottingham. Vol. 2. p,215. William Page. 1910 On his appointment to Newark Parish Church in 1802 he arranged for a new organ to be installed built by George Pike. It was opened in 1804. He worked as an organist in the church until his death in 1835.
