William Bishop (politician)
William Bishop (1817 β May 2, 1879) was an American businessman, military officer and politician in the 19th century. He served as the State Treasurer of Missouri from 1865 to 1869. Biography William H. Bishop was born in Martinsburg, Virginia, but moved with his family to McLean County, Illinois as a child. His father, also named William, was a veteran of the War of 1812. William H. moved to Missouri as an adult and by 1846 was living in Clark County, Missouri where he became a wealthy land and Commodity market, commodities speculator. By the time of the 1860 United States Census, Bishop had real estate holdings valued at $20,000, a substantial sum in that era. In March 1861 he attended the First inauguration of Abraham Lincoln, first inauguration of Abraham Lincoln in hopes of receiving a political appointment. Bill Bishop (American Football)
William Eugene Bishop (May 8, 1931 β May 14, 1998) was an American football defensive lineman who played 10 seasons in the National Football League. A former United States Air Force member, he played college football at North Texas State from 1949 to 1951. Much of his pro career was spent with the Chicago Bears; although he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers, he was traded to Chicago shortly after. He spent nine seasons with the Bears, remaining close with his teammates but frequently clashing with coach George Halas for salary reasons; in 1960, Bishop remarked, "Halas brainwashes you so much you don't want to play with anybody else; it's like playing for the New York Yankees." Bishop later became team captain of the inaugural Minnesota Vikings in 1961. William Robinson Bishop (December 27, 1864 or 1869 β December 15, 1932) was a professional baseball player. He was a pitcher over parts of three seasons (1886β1887, 1889) with the Pittsburgh Alleghenys and Chicago White Stockings. For his career, he compiled an 0β4 record in seven appearances, with a 9.96 earned run average and nine strikeouts. There is disagreement about the year of Bishop's birth. Retrosheet and Baseball-Reference list his year of birth as 1864, whereas Fangraphs lists his birth year as 1869. If Fangraphs is correct, Bishop was one of the youngest players in Major League Baseball history, making his debut at roughly 16 years, nine months old. William Bishop (September 29, 1958 β April 21, 2018) was an American businessman, real estate developer, and urban designer. In 2018, Bishop was found unresponsive at his Hope Valley Country Club home in Durham, North Carolina. His death is currently under criminal investigation. Biography Bishop grew up in Pittsburgh. He worked as a metalwork artist before starting a business career as an urban designer. He became a prominent real estate developer in Hillsborough County, Florida and was responsible for the building of Pebble Creek, Westchase, Waterchase and Highland Park communities. He also had a prominent role in the development of Fish Hawk. In 2008, after being diagnosed with prostate cancer, he moved to North Carolina while receiving treatment at Duke University Health System. William Bradford Bishop Jr. (born August 1, 1936) is a former United States Foreign Service officer who has been a fugitive from justice since allegedly killing his wife, mother, and three sons in 1976. William Paxton Bishop (July 16, 1918 – October 3, 1959) was an American television and movie actor from Oak Park, Illinois. Early life Bishop was the son of Edward T. Bishop and Helen MacArthur Bishop. He had a brother, Robert. His elementary and secondary schooling came in New York and New Jersey. He went to West Virginia University where he wanted to study law but left to enter theater. While he was at WVU, Bishop "won laurels as a football player and in other athletics." William Bishop (c. 1553 – 13 April 1624) was the first Roman Catholic bishop in England after the Reformation, serving as Vicar Apostolic of England and titular Bishop of Chalcedon. Roman Catholicism had been banned in England in 1559. William Bishop was appointed bishop over the whole of England, Wales and Scotland in 1623. As Roman Catholicism was officially illegal in England at the time, he was given the titular see of Chalcedon in Asia Minor. He arrived in England secretly on 31 July 1623 at age 70 and had to walk 12 miles to find refuge. He identified and selected 20 archdeacons to take charge over geographical districts.
