Wigan (UK Parliament Constituency)
Wigan is a constituency in Greater Manchester, represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2010 by Lisa Nandy of the Labour Party, who also serves as the Shadow Housing and Levelling Up Secretary. History Wigan was incorporated as a borough on 26 August 1246, after the issue of a charter by Henry III. In 1295 and January 1307 Wigan was one of the significant places called upon to send a representative, then known as a 'burgess', to the Model Parliament. However, for the remainder of the medieval period the seat was not summoned to send an official despite being one of only four boroughs in Lancashire possessing Royal Charters; the others were Lancaster, Liverpool and Preston. This changed in the Tudor period with Henry VIII's grant of two Members of Parliament to the town. William Barne (died 1562)
William Barne or Berners (by 1527 – 1562), of Harlton and Milton, Cambridgeshire, was an English landowner and politician. He married Alice Cook, widow of William Cook (d.1553) of Chesterton, Cambridge, who had inherited Milton Manor. He was a Member (MP) of the Parliament of England for Preston, Lancashire, in April 1554. Barne acquired a number of landholdings around Cambridge. He acquired the manor of Grantchester in 1559-60. He also owned the manor of Harlton, which he had purchased from the Hutton family in 1561, shortly before his death. Hythe was a United Kingdom constituencies, constituency centred on the town of Hythe, Kent, Hythe in Kent.
