William Baldwin (author)
William Baldwin ( fl. 1547) was an English author. Life From the West Country of England, perhaps Shropshire, or even from Wales. Nothing certain is known of Baldwin's life until 1547, when he started employment as a corrector in the London printing shop of Edward Whitchurch. Previously, he seems to have studied logic and philosophy at Oxford. During the reigns of Edward VI and Queen Mary, it appears Baldwin played an occasional role in the production of theatrical exhibitions at court, while continuing to work at the printing shop. Records of the master of the revels, Thomas Cawarden, show that he had a hand in 'a comedy concerning the way of life' and a morality play, but this cannot be confirmed. He is probably the William Baldwin who was ordained deacon by Archbishop Grindal in 1563; the same man was described as a minister in the 1587 ''Mirror for Magistrates'', and was noted to have given up printing for an appointment in the church, viz. as vicar of Tortington, Sussex, in 15 ... William Baldwin (Jesuit)
William Baldwin or Bawden (1563–1632), was an English Jesuit implicated in the Gunpowder plot. Biography Baldwin was a native of Cornwall. He entered Exeter College, Oxford, on 20 December 1577, studied in that university for five years, and passed over to the English College of Douay, then temporarily removed to Rheims, where he arrived on 31 December 1582. The following year he proceeded to Rome, and entered the Venerable English College there. He was ordained a priest in 1588, and served one year as English penitentiary at St. Peter's Basilica. His health failing in Rome, he was sent to Belgium, where he entered the Society of Jesus in 1590, and was advanced to the dignity of a professed father in February 1602. He was professor of moral theology at Louvain for some time. William Warren Baldwin (April 25, 1775 – January 8, 1844) was a doctor, businessman, lawyer, judge, architect and reform politician in Upper Canada. He, and his son Robert Baldwin, are recognized for having introduced the concept of "responsible government", the principle of cabinet rule on which Canadian democracy is based. Early life William Warren Baldwin was born in County Cork, Ireland in 1775 of Robert Baldwin Sr. William graduated from the medical school at the University of Edinburgh in 1797. Faced with the prospect of the uprising of the Society of United Irishmen in 1798, he came to Upper Canada with his father and family, arriving in July 1799. The family moved to Durham County, where he became a lieutenant-colonel in the Durham militia and a justice of the peace in 1800. William Edwin Baldwin
William Edwin Baldwin (July 28, 1827 – February 19, 1864) was a Confederate Army officer during the American Civil War. A bookstore owner and member of the local militia in Columbus, Mississippi, Baldwin enlisted in the Confederate Army soon after Mississippi announced its secession from the Union, accepting a commission as Colonel of the 14th Mississippi Infantry Regiment. Stationed briefly in Pensacola, Florida, he was transferred with his unit to East Tennessee and later central Kentucky, where he fought and was later captured at the Battle of Fort Donelson. After being released in a prisoner exchange, he was promoted to the rank of brigadier general and sent to West Tennessee, where he assumed command of a mixed brigade of Mississippi and Tennessee soldiers. Winning distinction at the Battle of Coffeeville, Baldwin would later participate in the battles of Port Gibson and Champion's Hill during the Vicksburg Campaign. William Henry Baldwin
William Henry Baldwin (3 November 1827 – 17 October 1894) was a shipbuilder from Quebec who came from a ship building families on both sides of his family. He was raised by an uncle, George Black, a shipbuilder who apprenticed William to another uncle at the age of 14. By 1851, Baldwin had formed a partnership with Henry Dinning and leased the Cape Cove shipyard for eight years. The partnership lasted for 5 years with Baldwin moving to Saint-Roch and acquiring a bankrupt shipyard. Baldwin had a great deal of success in the business and retired at the time the market for wooden ships was disappearing. He had been a ship builder for about 20 years and built many ships and furthered the commerce of the area. William Baldwin, born John Baldwin (1836 – 30 July 1917) was a 19th-century Member of Parliament in the Otago region of New Zealand. Early life Baldwin was born in late 1836, and baptised on 7 January 1837. He was born John Baldwin, the son of Henry Baldwin of Bandon, County Cork, Ireland, and later changed his given name to William. He served in the 19th Regiment and saw action in the Indian Rebellion of 1857. Life in New Zealand Baldwin settled in Otago, New Zealand in 1860, where he purchased a sheep run at Teviot. Together with Gabriel Read, he was one of the discoverers of gold at Waitahuna.
